"I'm never quite sure what you mean by consensus politics. I believe that what most people want in their lives, is what the Conservative Party wants to have for them. I believe that our policies are fundamentally common sense policies. Just let's take taxation for an example. Wherever I go I hear enormous resentment about the amount which people are paying out of their own pay packet in tax. And, this goes right across the income ranges. Socialism started by saying it was going to tax the rich, very rapidly it was taxing the middle income groups. Now, it's taxing people quite highly with incomes way below average and pensioners with incomes way below average. You look at the figure on the beginning of a pay slip, sometimes it can look quite high, look along the slip to the other end, and see how many deductions you've had off, those deductions have increased enormously under Socialism ...
Public expenditure, which they always boast about, is financed out of the pay packet in our pockets. People are saying that they really think too much is being taken out of the pay packet for someone to spend on their behalf, and they'd rather be left with more, and it's now well-known that Socialist Governments put up taxes and Conservative Governments take them down. It's part of our fundamental belief giving the people more choice to spend their own money in their own way."

That is a general sound bite that, in the words Lenin is; "A lie told often enough becomes the truth." At any given time, in any given country the term "conservative" will have any given application and understanding. In the explanation here, conservative is what is recognized as the right of socialism. Such conservatives will during elections promise to lower taxes (and they may lower 1 or 3 up front) then once in power, they slowly adjust the theft of the noble labor's fruit upwards. It doesn't matter conservative, liberal, etc.; the 2nd plank of the communist manifesto is enslaving theft by any amount or degree ! ! !

We need leaders like her again! "Socialism only lasts until you run out of other people's money."

A very twisted statement stating the Current Democratic Socialist government has indeed within the US been in control since the civil war. What she calls conservative, should actually be the Free democratic Republic under siege. Socialism MUST BE ABOLISHED AND DISMANTLED, return to Natural and common law governing the sovereign individual and Protecting the individuals' Financial Liberty and Freedom from the very oppression exercised under socialism, with its "legalized plunder".

All taxation is theft. If I take money at gun point it's called robbery, If it's done by the State, it's suddenly called a tax.

Thatcher came to power in the UK in 1979 by making promises like this and then proceeded to attack the working man and dismantle the mechanisms of wealth distribution put in place by the post war Atlee government. She implemented economic and social policies based on Friedman Economics and the cult of the individual to a far greater extent than any other western power. Privatisation of essential public services and utilities as well as financial market de -regulation has progressively led to the UK becoming a monetarist rather than a mixed capital economy with 80% of GDP dependent on the service and financial sector. The Gap between rich and poor is ever widening and in work poverty and low pay is endemic as the predicted 'trickle down' effect of wealth creation via a smoke and mirrors economy did not materialize. Her governments presided over massive unemployment while simultaneously introducing legislation that decreased the powers of unions and workers rights . The industrial heartlands in the North of England and Scotland disappeared in 20 years and nothing has replaced them. Many people living in the UK today would love to be able to pay income tax (which is by far the fairest progressive tax system) but because of Thatcher and her policies do not have jobs to enable them to do so.
