Mencius Quote

"The great man does not think beforehand of his words that they may be sincere, nor of his actions that they may be resolute -- he simply speaks and does what is right."

Hmm....Soo much said in soo few words.I would add to this quote though."The great man simply speaks and does what is right according to the guidelines of his high moral standards and in line with Truth and Righteousness as revealed to him by The Source of Goodness and Truth."  -- Me Again
Best quote yet! Nietsche had something interesting things to say about this also. Apparently we have had few great men run for public office.  -- Waffler, Smith, Arkansas      1
Said well Me Again and Waffler. (-; hmmm, maybe we should take a poll and see ;-)  -- Mike, Norwalk      1
I would add, "and bears the consequences." This is a good definition of honor and integrity. Of course what is 'right' is weighed in the heart of the man, great or otherwise.  -- E Archer, NYC      2
'RIGHT' as taught by Jesus Christ alone!!!  -- Lee Yoder, Escondido, CA      1 1
Hey, Lee, this was spoken 300 years before Jesus. People have to learn for themselves what is 'right' whether their inspiration is Jesus, Moses, Confucius, Plato, Galileo, or whomever. In any case, WE are responsible for whatever we do whether we are 'right' or not.  -- E Archer, NYC      1 1
Love it! The "Right" is within each of us and no one has power or dominion over that. I don't care where you get it from as long as you get it! Do suicide bombers think they are doing the right thing? Do our soldiers fighting in an occupying force think they are doing the right thing? When we are waterboarding prisoners do we think we are doing the right thing? The sentiment is good but is that reality? What is Right for a follower of Jesus Christ (his true teachings are contrary to Christianity) may be wrong to a Muslim or a Jew or any other religion or belief. All we can do is what's right in our heart and trust that it is the right thing to do.  -- RobertSRQ      1 1
I've met people like that and none were politicians.  -- J Carlton, Calgary
"From the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh." The great man speaks and does what is right because he is a great man.  -- Ken, Allyn, WA      1
Yeah Ken that is waht Nietsche said!  -- Waffler, Smith, Arkansas
we have no soldiers fighting in an occupying force.  -- warren, olathe
I would also add that a great man would be a good man and doesn't need a Teleprompter and the staff of writers to keep his lies in order, he would speak from his heart because his heart is true and isn't colored by propagated deceptions. What does that say for certain people who except and defend such obvious deceptions?  -- Mike, Pleasant Hill      1
Robert, do what is right in your own eyes not caring what the source is just as long as you gain that enlightenment for yourself. Seems similar to the original lie that Satan told in the garden, you will be as gods (little "g") knowing good and evil. It most certainly does matter where you GET IT lest you forget you have an adversary bent on destroying you!  -- Mike, Pleasant Hill
I think it was Davy Crocket who once said, "Be sure you are right, then go ahead".  -- jim k, Austin, Tx
I Like it jim k, Be as ( good ) as you can be, and then do the right thing ! Adam and Eve were dependent, God seeks after full grown Independent individual Adults ! I'm not sure about great, just do what is right ! And let God sort the rest out !  -- Ronw13, Yachats Or
Wisdom is known of her children. Through out all time. The Spirit of the lord in continuance. The Governor of the Nations !  -- Ronw13, Yachats Or
