    I believe human beings have rights and that includes children. Parents who might refuse to teach their chldren should be denied their children at least enough hours in the day for education. Parents should be given first priority in teaching their children but community standards should be established by the parents assembled. Parents should have rights as parents but that does not make them gods. In my town we have a High Schoold and Private Academy side by side. People can choose but they must educate their children.

Who decides what the parent is supposed to teach, what material is to be covered? You have mentioned something about the parents assembled. Well, who assembles them? How large is this assembly or this community, a town? a county? a state? or the entire country? What is it that makes the individual parent so wrong and this assembly so right? And most importantly, what right does any other parent have over the education of my children? What makes them more worthy of choosing what I should teach to my children?

    Simple arrogance from Waffler again. Always the dedicated communist who believes that there should be some authority that decides what parents should do. Justice is simple, defend the rights of the people. Dictatorships happen when the law punishes for acts of omission instead of acts of commission -- that is the tactic of tyranny and egomania. This kind of crap rolls off Waffler's tongue daily. Parental rights are not 'given' by the state, Waffler, they are inherent as are their responsibilities. Children have rights, but the right of the state to indoctrinate them is not one of them. Marx's state-imposed education has never been about excellence, it was about control. Please tell me which communist country you would prefer to live in, hypocrites?

    The BEST thing that could happen in this country is the defunding of the Dept of Education. PRIVATIZE education. Like Unions now; so goes education in America. They've been corrupted by socialists. Take their names; remember who they are; kick them all to the border. Time to vote them all out of office; out of our school system; out of our courts and don't frequent their businesses. Eventually they will leave the country because they cannot make a living in this "Freedom loving country." Americans must start paying closer attention to whom they are supporting, whether it is by purchasing from their businesses; voting for them; or any other support. We've already run one business out here because residents refused to support this guy with his socialist rants and opinions. He's since sold the store and moved to "bleaker" socialist pastures.

    Oh my God! Come on guys, Marx is saying that all children, no matter who they are or where they come from, should be given access to education that is given adequate funding by the state, so that no child will be denied the right to go to university or school because they can't afford it, or because the children of those who can afford it will do better, purely because they had more money thrown at them. At the moment state education is failing, but that is because our governments prefer to spend money on the military or on tax breaks for the rich. The ideal it is based on: that everyone should have the right and actively be encouraged and assisted in every way to be educated, is not being met by governments but it is how society should be run. Marx doesn't want to deny any parent the right to educate their children. The phrasing of the quote only reflects Marx's phraseology, as he was writing in the 19th century; none of his books ever said anything about taking away parental rights, but only improving the family through the security of a free and high standard of education for all. Go Marx!

    Sometimes I wonder if Waffler and his philosophical kin that appear on this site are merely fulfilling the role of provocateur to incite and stimulate philosophical arguments to keep the site interesting and promote a dedicated following?

    But then I am mugged by reality as I look around the country and come to the inescapable conclusion that there are really people out there who buy the Waffler type philosophical and worldview crap! Spoonfed through the government indoctrination centers as the downright truth of the label of "useful idiot" is an inescapable fact!
