“If an American is to amount to anything he must rely upon himself, and not upon the State; he must take pride in his own work, instead of sitting idle to envy the luck of others. He must face life with resolute courage, win victory if he can, and accept defeat if he must, without seeking to place on his fellow man a responsibility which is not theirs.”

Why just Americans? We go all over the world and set up others in other countries to make things for us, thus losing our jobs to them? States like Alabama and Tennessee, Pennsylvania and I don't know how many others probably Kentucky, incentiveize, induce, maybe bribe, give preferential tax treatments to folks like Kia, Saturn, Honda, Volkswagen and I don't know who else to bring jobs and industry to their locales while all the time stiffing the go it only Detroit Automakers. The free market if it ever existed ended many millenium ago. Nothin like independence and initiative but lets keep an eye out for a level playing field.

Saturn is a division of GM. Plus, there is nothing to prevent Michigan and Detroit from providing the same incentives and tax breaks to the Big 3. These governmental agencies prefered to gut the golden goose.

This used to describe an essential part of the American character. May it be again.

This has got to be my second favorite quote, behind Benjamin Franklin's 1759 speech in Pennsylvania when he stated: " Those Who Would Give Up Essential Liberty to Purchase a Little Temporary Safety, Deserve Neither Liberty Nor Safety. - Benjamin Franklin

Unfailingly, it is character that makes the defining difference.

Stalin's psychopolitical warfare waging ideological heirs have well understood the salience of his observation:

" America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."

Seemingly endless decades of relentless, heinous, subversion has had its unholy effects on our once noble Republic.

Teddy really didn't mean that. He was our first progressive Pres. He didn't have a problem with taking taxes from the rich to expand gov't.
