"Contrary to everything our rulers tell us, and everything that our schoolteachers are teaching the children of this nation, the biggest threat to the lives and well-being of the American people lies not with some foreign government. The biggest threat to the American people today lies with the United States government. And while gun ownership stands as a barrier to potential, Nazi-like behavior, the long-term solution is to dismantle, not reform, the iron fist of the welfare state and the controlled economy. This includes the end (not the reform) of the IRS, the DEA, the BATF, the SEC, the FDA, HUD, the departments of HHS, Labor, Agriculture, and Energy, and every other agency that takes money from some and gives it to others or interferes with peaceful behavior. It entails the repeal of all laws that permit such conduct. And it means the privatization of most of the bureaucrats who work for the U.S. government."

I would have explicitly included the Federal Reserve in that list.

ABSOLUTELY ! ! ! We hold this truth to be self evident ! ! ! Adding to Veriphile's add on; I would add on re-establishing the language with words, phrases, concepts, terms, etc. that bring to the mind's eye and heart's understanding liberty, law and rights. By way of example; in a de jure representative republic of individual sovereigns, that which is here called and recognized as rulers, should be understood as limited servants. AND, the stated: "repeal of all laws" would be accurately understood as: "repeal of all rules of order" - (law, within the "laws of nature and of nature's God are absolute and unchanging).

The sine qua non of minimalist government is the Virtue of the People.

The restoration of our once glorious Republic would proceed, ineluctably, from the restoration of the rooted in Virtue and Morality Reason of the People.

I'm with you, Mike, but your 'add-on' is a tall order and an ideal that has never been reached. But that is what we should be aiming for individually as well as a people. We find ourselves born into a world with natural laws and limits, with people already here, at various stages of life, in various positions of organizations, laying claim to every square inch of Earth, raising us in the culture and traditions of the time and place. Dogs got to dig and cats got to scratch -- what do humans got to do? People cannot be born 'enlightened,' but the innate drive to hunt, learn, survive, procreate leads one to have to solve problems. The struggle is built-in.

The world is like a crucible, and I am buried in ore. Life stokes the fire to separate the gold from the dross. ;-)
