Brilliant man - It's a shame he was shot by a whacko.

Garfield was the second president to be assassinated who challenged the central bank (Lincoln was the first). He could also write Greek with one hand and Latin with the other at the same time.

One popular error today is "we are a democracy". We are, in fact, a Republic. Republic = rule by law, democracy = rule by majority. So if a majority vote to murder you, you will surely die very soon.

Uh, . . . trying to say that the US is either a republic or a democracy is like trying to say that a person is either a human or a male (or a female). It's like trying to say that a vehicle is either a Chevy or a truck.

The two categories are different and not mutually exclusive. We have a demcratic (democratically elected representatives) republic (as opposed to a 'pure' democracy).

republic n. Abbr. rep., Rep., Repub. 1.a. A political order whose head of state is not a monarch and in modern times is usually a president. b. A nation that has such a political order. 2.a. A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them. b. A nation that has such a political order. -- AHD

    republic/Republic -- Merriam-Webster

democracy n., pl. democracies. 1. Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives. 2. A political or social unit that has such a government. 3. The common people, considered as the primary source of political power. 4. Majority rule. 5. The principles of social equality and respect for the individual within a community. -- AHD

I think we have a representative democracy because of limited communications in the 1700s, if America were re-founded today we would all vote like on Amercan Idol.... by text message....and Sanjay would be president

The central bank are the worst scumbags to ever exist. It goes back at least as far as Ceasar and the fall of the Roman Empire.

Terry, your limited posting only begins to scratch the surface - not even a good mark. Voting for a representative in a republic is choosing an individual(s) to do for you (personal time restraints inhibit all that we can do) and protect individual inalienable right. Codes, statutes, etc. in said republic are only tools to define the already existing natural law for administrative purposes. In a democracy, the ruling gods (might makes right) create law and call the law codes, statutes, etc. The here republic is freedom, democracy is despotism and slavery.

Constitutional Hybrid Republic, which by design, protects the Declaration of Endowment from God, our Inalienable Rights of physical, fiscal, and spiritual Liberty and Freedom from restraint or oppression of/by a mob-rule, democratic process. Our democratic Republic has No Authority to nullify the individual's inalienable rights. Only under siege is our Liberty compromised. This, our Republic has been under siege sense the loss of State and Individual Sovereignty at the point of a gun. 156 years, a short time never forgotten !! Long live the Republic and the Liberty it represents ! Semper FI

If we were to try to write a constitution to day it would be an absolute disaster.  We can not even fulfill the basic requirements for a republic to succeed.  Just look at all the dems running for president.  Not one would be voted for by anyone that has a brain or is reasonably informed.  Our news reports what they prefer to be true and ignore what the wish were not true. We have violent groups that intend to squash all who disagree with their socialist one world agenda. No one debates on most of the news programs.  All you get is name calling, hate mongering, or mindless regurgitation of vapid talking points.  This is so the left does not have to appeal to reason since they have lost the debate long ago.  This in itself proves that they know they have no argument.  The agenda has nothing to do with what they say it is.  It is just totalitarian global domination.  Pure fascism.
