"The growth of drug-related crime is a far greater evil to society as a whole than drug taking. Even so, because we have been seduced by the idea that governments should legislate for our own good, very few people can see how dangerously absurd the present policy is."

Sure get rid of government welfare (corporate and individual) which is also “legislation for our own good” so the taxpayer does not have to foot the bill for drug abuse and allow the victims of "while intoxicated" crimes to sue for damages the offender and his immediate family for all they are worth and more. We no longer live in a free society, we live in welfare state. We must accept the consequences of the public being forced to pay for everything, including the stupidity of others, at the point of an IRS gun. Leave the drunks and drug addicts to die in the gutters unless their families or private charities come get them, and I will be all for legalization. Until then we must live with the madness of modern liberalism (socialism). You cannot have one without the other.

Drug prohibition has caused the hugest black market ever and has corrupted the justice system, the police, the lawyers, the drug companies, and the politicians. More people have been killed due to the drug trade than the drugs themselves. I think we can say the war on drugs has been a dismal failure -- except for those in the drug trade.

helorat, your sentiments are well said but how on earth does this make prohibition a good policy.

The growth of drug-related crime is a far "LESS" evil to each and every, any and all person(s) (individually or united as a society) as a specific act or as a whole than those hired servants stealing from their masters at gun point and otherwise threat, duress, and maleficence (all with impunity). Even so, because the majority of sheeple have been seduced by theocratic proselytizing, that being, governments should legislate for society's good instead of defining the natural law, very few people can see how dangerously absurd the present dogma, policy and tyranny enforcement is.

Underground dictators, the medical industry at large, unethical business practices by way of money hungry doctors giving in to big pharmaceutical companies pushing high powered drugs into the hands of the public, being sold on the streets. Bombarded by big media at every turn or flip of the button. If some people ever saw the real truth concerning social engineering, legalized drug pushing by big pharma, and the dumbing down of the populous. Between lawyers and the raping of the general public through the welfare system. We can come to see the true culprit. Riddled with fraud and privilege for the elite. Playing upon the lack of faith and fear of death brought about by unethical tyrannical socialism of the worst kind. This America has become the biggest drug pusher on the face of the planet. Beer and pot have always been the poor mans remedy for pain and sedation. The opium dens we can thank China for. Thank the railroad for spreading that crap around. Now we can thank big pharma for making it stronger and more available. That is sickening and sad and the escalation with the boomers retiring only perpetuates the inevitable collapse of the welfare state.
