"A country, after all, is not something you build as the pharaohs built the pyramids, and then leave standing there to defy eternity. A country is something that is built every day out of certain basic shared values."

On the surface it seems an innocent enough sentiment. But coming from a staunch communist and Nazi sympathizer one has to wonder what his idea of "shared values" really was...

Yes shared values is what makes us at least a body politic. Right wing nuts just hate the word shared and I am not to sure they care about the word values unless it has to do with money.

Actually Waffler my values are primarily "moral" as opposed to "communal". And who says we are supposed to be a body politic? If you've got a problem with that, it's because you're a communist. Have a nice day. :)

Not shooting the messenger, maybe, can be sometimes. Shared values to be built upon, really depends on the chosen values. Waffler's prefered communistic form of statist collectivism, administered through legal positivism, is an extremely detrimental system of shared values to society's constructive enhacement. Shared values based on natural law / a just common law, in a republic of individual sovereigns builds a country in harmony with eternity.
