"Today, The Daily Telegraph starts its 'A Free Country' campaign. Week by week, and in major individual investigations, we shall examine how freedom is being taken away, whether by Westminster or Whitehall or Brussels or any other authority. We shall try to annoy the control freaks, whether they are Right, Left or Centre, and we shall welcome allies for freedom from all quarters. The Conservative leadership contestants hardly breathe a word about freedom. The Labour Government's Queen's Speech is a shopping list of attacks on our liberties. There's plenty to do. Libertad o muerte!"

We'll have to wait for the fall election to see how its turning out. America's rights are disappearing wholesale and no one seems to notice...no one seems to care...

This was in England not the U.S. Don't think much came of it since this is the first I heard of it.

Between the lines the Telegraph is saying that people cooperating in ever higher levels of organization (Whitehall, Westminister, Brussels) is a detriment to our freedom. By Brussels I assume they mean the common market and/or Nato. The English or many of them were notoriously anti-common market. Most Europeans I believe love the new freedoms they have first by operation of Nato and then the freedom of movement of people and goods throughout the common market. America knew the joys and benefits of a continental market for 200 years.

I'm pretty sure Britian is lost.

Slowly the British public are waking up to this erosion of freedom and the loss of our country, all done without our consent. Hitler would be proud of this takeover without a single shot being fired, if he were here i bet he'd wish he'd thought of it first. I sincerely hope that we will stand together and make sure the New World Order/EU doesn't get away with it. The power of the people has always been my prayer and always believed that once they knew the facts they would stand shoulder to shoulder...dear God let it be so. We have to stick together, whatever our political leanings, we can stop this juggernaut.

I THINK YOU HAVE FOUND A SPLENDID MEANS TO ENTERTAIN AND INFORM. AS A LIBERTARIAN FOR 55 YEARS, I STAND APPALED AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO AMERICA.HOWEVER, I WILL NEVER GIVE UP APPEALING IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE TO THE PEOPLE TO COME TO THEIR SENSES.

Wake up Britain and give your collective heads a shake. You have allowed politically correct individuals in the media and in all levels of government to dictate the the way your lives and country is being given away. It's YOUR country...TIME to take it back. Unload the dinosaurs who are running your country into the ground. It is NOT racist to want Britian for the British. IT IS traitorous to change the very nature of a country for the sake of votes and power.

England has never been a free country, I don't know what they are talking about. ;-) 5 stars for the sentiment, though.

Good statement, but America seems to follow in every bad step of England. Socialized medicine has nearly bankrupted the country. And now we have Medicaid and Obamacare.
     -- cal, Lewisville, tx

Social security, Medicaid, and the likes are a mute point, seeing it is not sustainable. Unlawful besides. They like everybody to fix what is not broken ! Playing upon fear tactics. Seems, with nothing for many to do, spending stolen money does not bother them. They just get in line. If nothing is wrong, give the Doc a second, maybe a 1400.00 dollar check from social security, housing thrown in to boot. Meds ? Try 8 to 10 thousand. A little growth hormone at 4 to 5 thousand a month. This is the curve of behavior among the younger wanting a check in a unionized welfare state. Sounds like an old story repeating itself over and over. Independence is not in their vocabulary, much less faith. The fear of death is so instilled, with the lack of faith, like sheep to the slaughter looking to the gov for help.

i especially like "We shall try to annoy the control freaks". The EPA comes to mind along with a dozen or so other government bureaus.
