"Surely a large part of the zealous repression of radical protest in America has its roots in the fact that millions of men who are apparently "insiders" know how vulnerable the system is because they know how ambiguous their own attachments to it are. The slightest challenge exposes the fragile foundations of legitimacy of the state."

Way, WAY more accurate than not ! The legal system, as currently perpetrated on de jure sovereign individuals is ANTI-Constitutional / ANTI-law of nature (Declaration of Independence). The entirety of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial combines to operate a completely illegitimate state. By example: an appellate court judge offered to the court a bogus Sua Sponte (of his or its own will; voluntarily) motion and then ruled on it contrary to facts and evidence. Within the "law of nature and nature's God" (Declaration of Independence), law enforcement is an oxymoron. Elected Sheriffs maintain a differing job description. A decade or so prior to the War between the States, there were no police departments in the U.S. Boston, Atlanta, New York and Philadelphia first tried out soft versions of police departments to test the public's resolve. It was held at the time that local police established a standing army to uphold foreign tyrants demands and edicts. After the war, police departments were established everywhere to implement the new tyrants theocratic dogma and interpretations.

For one thing the reasonable citizen doesn't protest, they have alternative fair solutions. It's the spoiled brats with nothing but selfish goals that protest. The status quo is not at all legitimate with a $36 trillion dollar debt and annual productivity of $29 trillion dollars. This imbalance can be identified in about every conventional citizen in their inability to simply productively converse in a relevant conversation.
