    Yep. Ernest Hollings - "We need to raise taxes to generate enough money to get this economy back on track!" is an example of Doublethink. Unless of course he believed that a downward spiral was the track he wanted to be on.

    Ok, we'll go with that. The focus here is "belief". Reality, absolute truth and knowledge (if you will, an epistemology of sorts) are something all together different. The scripture James 1:8 comes to mind: "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." Those ever learning while stuck in philosophy (there being no absolutes or answers) lose an understanding that truth exists. (-; A progressive's conundrum, speaking out of both sides of their mouth so they can never be wrong ;-) Also, Einstein's statement on insanity comes to mind in an Orwell kind of way; "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

    Anti-Catholicism, The Church of England did Orwell no good, Threskeia religious practices instilling doubt and double mindedness. Luke warm at best, and of no value to Liberty and Freedom.
