The Fabian Socialists had well educated the founders. Many of the Antifederalists saw the ever escalating influence and otherwise debauchery of a growing collective statist and an otherwise totalitarian power grab as a threat to liberty. The only way perceived to maintain freedom was to disperse the power of the body politic to as small a precinct as possible.
