"As the Founding Fathers knew well, a government that does not trust its honest, law-abiding, taxpaying citizens with the means of self-defense is not itself worthy of trust. Laws disarming honest citizens proclaim that the government is the master, not the servant of the people... The Bill of Rights does not grant rights to the people, such that its repeal would legitimately confer upon government the powers otherwise proscribed. The Bill of Rights is the list of the fundamental, inalienable rights, endowed in man by his Creator, that define what it means to be a free and independent people, the rights which must exist to ensure that government governs only with the consent of the people."

Its comments like this that makes the real world outside of the myopic US version of it shake their heads with pity. I've never heard such rubbish. How can you have the word "creator" and "guns" in the same belief system when they are a complete contradiction of each other. The purpose of the creator is to create, the purpose of a gun is to destroy.

Mr. Tom S from Denverhas invoked Theology and government in his comment. The Scriptures (Bible AV) deal with both. It is apparent he know very little or nothing about what the Bible says and means about both. Kudos to Mr. Jeffrey R. Snyder. I like his kind of conservatism.

Roy, is there something in British air that causes infantile comments such as yours ?

Roy's got it right... other than that there are a significant number of us here in the US who see how foolish folks like Snyder are... too bad they seem to have the upper hand (but then again, the brute has always ruled the cave they have dragged us into).

Well, Snyder redeems himself with this comment. The founding fathers knew all too well from personal experience the risk to liberty that results from having a government that is stronger and better armed than its citizens.

There are those who have been so well indoctrinated as actually believe that they should just let their lives be run by a govenment...like sheep. Like Roy in the UK there. Sad really, the UK used to deserve some respect.

Good Roy - jim I'm afraid you are as usual without intellect, please go shopping, if you are lucky WalMart has some in clearance. The US around the world has loss respect; at least the Brits go out into the streets when their government is wrong; in the good old USA you just roll over and take it!

All of you who do not believe the Creator would condone the ownership of firearms should look up Luke 22:36. "...let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one."

A fairly simple statement of facts with little interpretation. The here naysayers must reject certain facts to cherry pick others in supporting their irrational theocracy's dogmas.

This quote really brought out a lot of left-wing authoritarians!

I am curious as to exactly what dangers an armed citizenry face compared with a disarmed citizenry. Perhaps Roy, Reston, and RBE can explain how their armed neighbors have in any way endangered their lives and liberties? Gun control is simply 'CONTROL' for in order to irradicate all powers to defend oneself, family, and neighbors, all must be subjected to inspection and surveillance and face weapons in the hands of those hired to control us. I doubt the bleeding hearts will ever be satisfied. I have never threatened anyone with my weapons, yet those calling for the de-powering of all people MUST threaten all of us with the very force they do not want us to have -- as if other fellow human beings can be trusted more than I can trust myself with my own powers of self-preservation. Such oxymoronic idiocy is symptomatic of altruistic utopian ideals that merely aim to bring the masses under the control of an elite -- filled with the likes of RBE, Waffler, Reston, and the rest of the gang that thinks that they know better -- that they can be trusted with power but not every individual. Such self-righteousness is no different than the fundamental religious 'right' that they so often complain about. Hypocrites.

Given the fact or the logic of 'Least Government is the Best Government'... the citizen should be able to readily 'protect himself without necessarily having to wait for any government agency.- particularly as of now when all Nations without exception have got into a rather 'blurred view' as regards the bonafides and malafides of human fundamental rights - thanks to the Isms of sorts ... like communism - naxalism - feminism or secularism which have all discounted the human count of an assured living sans any 'sanctioned' injury or insult - that by way of political, religious or 'cultural' presumptions or assumptions.

Roy in the UK. I don't want to insult you, but I think you have been thoroughly indoctrinated in your country. Are you of an age that you would remember when the Bobbies carried only billie clubs and the citizens were armed? The crime rate in the UK now is exponentially higher. There are also riots in the streets and bombings, and terror strikes are routine. I really like England, but it is not a place I will visit again. It's just not the same anymore. What a pity. Even the prince and Camilla are not safe. Snyder's quote deserves five stars.

Also to Roy. Just look around in any city,,,, cameras every where you go,,,, surprisingly this is not for your safety,,, we now live in a police state. Guns must be removed for the protection of honest people,,,, trust your government,,,, they never lie,,,, just look at the track record. Everything is for your own good. When anything happens "we are going to hold a public inquiry to ensure nothing like this ever happens again" The leading questions of a tightly controlled media. Wake up and smell the coffee,,, The poor people in Libya won't know what hit them now that they are getting their freedom. Mr Gaddafi wanted to bring the Gold standard back into his money,,, yes payment for oil in gold. Now Libya will have the Rothschild Debt based worthless paper money system installed and the Rothschild Dynasty will have the entire country as slaves to the World Bank and the IMF. Of course it won't be that that is causing the debt to rise,,, at least that is what they will be told on the television and they will all believe it just like gullible old you!
