In most cases, especially in philosophical situations. To know the spirit of God needs no argument to truly be an effective advocate. To argue opposing doctrines ('A'theism to 'Z'en) of religion, politics and philosophy, one is truly benefited by thoroughly knowing all sides of the subject, including opposing arguments as well as your own.
