"We must not confuse dissent with disloyalty. We will not be driven by
fear into an age of unreason if we remember that we are not descended
from fearful men, not from men who feared to write, to speak, to
associate and to defend causes which were, for the moment, unpopular."

Edward R. Murrow
(1908-1965) American broadcast journalist and war correspondent

The media and our government are making us fearful. Dissent today makes you likely to be labeled a terrorist.

Great quote from a great and brave American newsman... and so appropriate for what is happening in America today. Who would have thought that it could happen yet again.

google "Annie Moss" and you'll see what an idiot Murrow was.

John, don't shoot the messenger. The single focused stand alone quote here is great.

Whether Murrow was an idiot or not does not detract from the statement (ad hominem). Dissent against the Bush Admin was anything but "un-American," just like dissent from the Obama Admin is anything but "racist". It's amazing how a country of supposed "grown ups" are so amazingly childish.

In a deliberate effort to confuse dissent with disloyalty, Janet Napolitano and the loose cannon "Homeland Security" have now labeled veterans returning from overseas, NRA members. Libertarians, Minuteman organizations and pretty much anyone else who is a Constitutionalist, as "Right Wing Extremist". Never confuse Loyalism with Patriotism...they are two very different things. I'll refer you to events of 1776 to make the point.

Yes J. Is it not sad that every thing created by the government, even if the original intent was good, can be turned to support evil? As you may well know Obama campaigned on and still talks about a "domestic” army that will be as large as, and in addition to, our current army. This army he intends to use to control "domestic" terrorism. Make no mistake; he means the very people you are talking about are the ones he means to control. There is no difference in what he intends to do and what was done in pre WWII Germany. Obama knows that speed is of the essence. Hopefully more of his people will start to get concerned. That may be our only hope.

Yes. I'm always disturbed by the American trait to accuse those who question authority and demonstrate dissent are called names by the media and labeled unpatriotic and conspiracy theorists - go Jesse Ventura.

The quote is applicable whether under the thumb of Bush or Obama.  In the Trump era, broadcast media is all in for the supremacy of leftist thought, any dissent is grounds for censorship in order to 'protect the community.'  Communist propaganda is preferred nowadays.

"Dissent" from what? Disloyal to What? The occupying statist theocracy that now infests this land deserves great dissent with little to no loyalty. The founding principles and laws of individual sovereignty, inalienable rights and liberty warrant little to no dissent with great loyalty.
