Note to R.A. McMillan: Lincoln was NOT a founding father. If anything, the victory over the South was the end of the de jure (lawful) Constitutional government. From that point forward the Constitution has been mute and without a constituancy. From a common law stand point, the US has been a de facto democracy ever since in which all the people have become subservient to their government -- instead of the other way around. A tough lesson for those of us who went to public schools in the US and have been brought up to admire Lincoln as a hero. But we Americans just eat up hypocrisy like Cheerios. As a student in Washington DC, I admired Lincoln immensely -- and all the founding fathers. The Lincoln Memorial is the biggest and faces the Washington Monument and the Capitol. It looks like a giant temple -- just like the ancient temples to Zeus and no less imposing. Lincoln freed the slaves and was assassinated for it -- everyone knows that. My family moved to South Carolina, and I got a different view of the 'War Between The States.' Surprised was I to learn history from the Southern perspective, with plenty of their own monuments and forts. The War of Northern Aggression and the carpet-baggers put a new light on Lincoln. Many years later while studying currencies, I learned of Lincoln's issuance of the Greenbacks and the banking families of Europe trying to break up the USA. Lincoln was indeed fighting for the Union, on several fronts. If anything, Lincoln reminds me of the seat of power that the President occupies -- there is nothing like it in the world other than the thrones of empires still with their eye on America, it's people, and its land. What we weren't taught was that Lincoln lost, and America lost with it, into the hands of the European bankers, now the world's central bankers, to which all are beholden.  -- E Archer, NYC      2
