What a clown, that is exactly what law is. If everyone gave there approbation or in other words every one were behaving in the way that the law directs there would be no need for the law. Law is made to get everyone on board the same agenda. Now kids learn law as they advance in their education, but of course they never gave their approbation. They just have to learn to accept what has come down. But as Jefferson said we should examine and change our law each generation.  -- Waffler, Smith

Waffler, how abusively totalitarian of you. You are right that the theocracy's government schools propagate the false dogma that man can create law. There is a huge difference between a government of men and, a government of law. The quote references a government of men, calling immoral, unlawful, unjust, and contrary to unalienable rights rules, law (they are not). Whoa there Waffler! It's you who are the clown. What Mr. Adams was referring to is judges who make laws from the bench. Two fine examples are Brown v the Board of Education and Roe v Wade. These laws were made without the consent of the people and reflected the beliefs of a particular group of people...your people...noodle-headed liberals. Laws are created by Congress which are, the last time I checked, elected representatives of the people. Laws created by any other means is just another way of controling the people against their will. When the Supreme Court makes a law (unconstitutionally, by the way) it takes an amendment to the Constitution to undo it. And now that those laws have precedence, it is practically impossible to reverse them. Liberals are famous for going to the courts to get their way since they cannot get congress to agree to their nonsense.  -- Gunny Cee, Durham

When Samuel Adams said this it was before the Revolution. In that time the colonies were bound to the British Government for which they had no representation. They elected no official among that government that could voice their approbation to any law it enforced. That's what taxation without representation means; they were taxed by a government in which they had no representative. Today the laws of this country are made by an elected congress. Our approbation comes from the representative we have chosen. Judges cannot make laws but they can determine a law already in affect unconstitutional. In Brown vs Board of Education the court found it unconstitutional for the states to pass any laws that do not provide equal education to blacks and whites and that segregation of schools based on race, did just that. Unfortunately, they often twist or ignore the text of the Constitution in a manner that benefits their own agenda. In Roe vs Wade they ignored the child's constitutional right to life, liberty and property ( Preamble & the 14th amendment).  -- Publius, USA
