Reader comments about this quote:
This is a definition for "compulsory education" by the nation state. They force one to go to school and then teach the poor kids lies to make the status quo "normal" and patriotism to prepare to kill for god and country.

Answer: No. Our homeschooled children have really leap-frogged over their peers in a fraction of the time. Parents 1, Nanny-state 0.

No. There's no Aim about it, they are... Our education system is getting worse and will continue to do so while we have ignoramus’s running the country

The quote poses a great question. Archer, states a great answer. Though there are exceptional individual teachers here and there, it is the system, with it's devoted de-educators / propagandists / feel good baby sitters, curriculum, core beliefs, and desired end result that is/are truly a monster at the forefront of that which is killing America.

No!...no we can't! In Germany the state is actually persecuting families trying to practice home education under a law that was actually brought in under Hitler and is still on the books. They are taking children away from families and putting them in state schools. When challenged in court a German judge actually said it was in the "best interests of the state". The ruling stands.

It is not only Germany where home schooled children and their parents are persecuted. California for one is almost as bad. In the socialistic society, people are not individuals. They are chattel that belongs to the state, to be herded, prodded, taken to market, and eventually slaughtered.

Home schooling will be under attack all over the country if Hillary gets in and keeps control of congress. Idiots for voters are the only way the Dems can stay in power. That is why we have motor voter legislation (also motor voter gives illegal the right to vote in this country since the fake ss no. is not investigated by the dmv) Home schooling develops the whole person, creative thinking, and the capability of abstract though. The public education system seeks to destroy all those qualities in the individual. As it stands now the public system is there to promote liberalism or more accurately socialism. A poorly educated person is more likely to be poor and therefore vote for hand outs. A good education for all would be the death of the Democrat party as it is today.

Robert, are you aware of how little difference there is between NCLB and what Clinton did to education in office? And of the fact that NCLB was predominantly written by Ted Kennedy? And the fact that its strongest opponents in Congress are Republicans? The Democrats don't want to see NCLB gone...they just want to spend more money on it. True conservatives want to see control returned to local districts, something which Bush actually had in the original legislation as one of the four pillars but it was eventually defeated. Trevor, maybe that is the way the schools run in Canada, but it sure doesn't sound like schools here in the US! J Carlton, you are absolutely right. And worse than that, the high court ruled that homeschooling is child endangerment. But the law does not really go back to Hitler and we cannot so easily pass it off as something "those evil Nazis did." The process of centralization has a long history in Germany, ironically going back to Martin Luther. Under the Weimar Republic, the process was almost complete, with curriculum standardized and education compulsory. It left only two options for education: public and private schools. States rebelled a little, and it was never strictly enforced. But that law was from 1921 I believe. All Hitler's law was add the weight of enforcement to existing law and outlaw private schools. Hitler did not centralize education. The centralization of education is what made Hitler's grip on the country possible.

Dana, Trevor is the only one here who has hit it right on the head and you are brainwashed by the propaganda if you think that any state-run schooling system is different. If you were fortunate enough to have been raised - as I was - into decent home-schooling which consisted of allowing me to satisfy my curiosity about a large variety of subjects while coaching me in the basics of language and mathematics, you would realize - when reading the textbooks prescribed by any state run educational system - that it is all a bunch of one-sided hogwash that promotes ignorance about the real facts, patriotism where there should be none and belief in a god that doesn't exist. Moreover, what little they do actually "teach" is done so in an atmosphere that promotes disinterest to learning and 5 minutes after your final exam, you have already forgotten more than half of what you memorized and if asked again a few years down the road, you will have forgotten 95-100% of it. What's even worse is that now, they are slowly phasing in "reforms" whereby they have dumbed down the basics of language and mathematics to a point where no one will feel challenged to learn - all this so that the slower students don't feel like a failure - they wouldn't feel like a failure if they were learning at their own pace and according to their own psychological capacity and the quicker-minded students could advance to astronomical levels and not get bored out of their brains!

There is something wrong when we have so many gullible people accepting the so called "birther" argument. Anyway the definition "native born" is defined now by law and the courts to be more expansive than we thought it was in 1787. The law now says that anyone born of one American citizen who had previously lived in the United States for at least five years is themselves at birth a "native born American". So even if Barack Obama were born outside of the United States, he still was, and is a native born American.

Remedial reading courses in colleges, does that tell you anything about our public schools when you have to teach a college student to read. As to the "birthers", the Obamunist could shut them up by just showing his birth certificate. And how about those college records he carefully hides ?

Waffler, how liberal of you to miss the quote's subject matter so completely. A question for you Waffler: how does anyone know who Obamunist's parent's are (a lot of African children are adopted, and or raised, legally and otherwise by Americans) ? Once it is known who his parents were/are, then it would be time to address further constitutionally lawful determinations. Your middle of the argument assertions fail to address many, MANY other factors that have direct legal baring.

Waffler, like a good Liberal you overlook, ignore or obfuscate the facts. If you are talking about that illegal Kenyan presently residing in the White House, the law also states that his mother was too young to confer citizenship on the man with multiple names and SS numbers who has spent millions to block any attempts to look into his past. The guy is a cheap con man running on cheap slogans.

Can we trust the likes of Mike, J, and Jim K to every mouth anything like the truth. My response is spot on the quote Mike. You and your ilk are out to exploit, subvert and overturn any truth that stands in your way. You are a sick man if you think that Obama's parentage is in question. I believe we all have relatives, Mike even you. No one sprang directly from the earth or soil since Adama.
     -- Professor Waffler, Smith

Some here are honest though. They only attack Obama's birth because in their mind they think he is "liberal". If he were conservative they would not give a damn about it. Just like the Repubs did not give a damn about Bush era deficits and debt. After all it was Cheney who said "Deficits don't matter, Ronald Reagan proved it". What a bunch of holes y'all run with!

Today's quotation says it all. Politicians have destroyed America's once great public school system. The quality of a public school education through about the early 1960s was impressive. Now, all this "feel good" stuff is enervating and undermining America's youth.

Waffler, your liberal off topic ad hominems continue. How does anyone coming to life outside the US, being natural born by parentage, have to do with trusting the education by those exploiting us? Waffler, are you suggesting an ilk such as J, Jim, and me are some how exploiting you and we are schooling the "Professor"? hmm Waffler, how am I trying to exploit, subvert or overturn any truth by asking documentation confirming birth? There has been to date, that I'm aware of, no disinterested 3rd party documentation witnessing the subject birth (only some people sending in a form saying their daughter had an otherwise unconfirmed child). How am I a sick man questioning Obama's parentage? Mr. Obamunist Goodwrench the assassin, is acting in an office that requires a certain birth status, it being brought into question by a lot of evidence and the most questionable of paper work and circumstances. Waffler, what does all people having relatives have to do with knowing who Obama's parents are? What does questioning a birth have to do with an individual's unconstitutional liberal politics? Are you saying all liberals and conservatives are dishonest? (I wouldn't even go quite that far - some at least have good intentions)
     -- Mike, Norwalk

And Waffler does what Liberals do best...ignore the points of truth that don't suit his communist agenda and reply with personal attacks that have no basis in logic, morality or fact. Some "Professor"...a professor of propoganda that is...

Mike, Mike, Mike, Obama has a plethora of relatives in Kansas etcetera. Uncles, cousins etc. How can a man have relatives here if he sprung form somewhere else for generations past.

I know I am right -- my quotation says exactly how things are worldwide. The nation state in each country controls the thoughts of its citizens through the educational system and glorifies each state's history and importance. It is the educational system that justifies killing for god and country.

Waffler, Obama is way past being a liberal. He's a Muslim and has every notion of turning this nation into a Muslim country. And he's doing a pretty good job of it.

“‎A general State education is a mere contrivance for moulding people to be exactly like one another; and as the mould in which it casts them is that which pleases the dominant power in the government, whether this be a monarch, an aristocracy, or a majority of the existing generation; in proportion as it is efficient and successful, it establishes a despotism over the mind, leading by a natural tendency to one over the body.” ― John Stuart Mill, On Liberty

"Schools have not necessarily much to do with education... They are mainly institutions of control, where basic habits must be inculcated in the young. Education is quite different and has little place in school."
