    Taxes aren't bad. Trouble is that Americans don't know how much they're taxed. They think that their income tax is the main staple of income wherein the government runs. This is simply ignorant thinking--not to mention that the same average American doesn't even know how much he actually pays in income tax!! Take a look at the embedded taxes!! Try to back-trace a product. Think of a loaf of bread, how many taxes have gone into making one single loaf of bread? Besides the sales tax you get at the store, think about the taxes the farmer had who raised the grain, the manufacturer who processed the grain and made the bread, the transportation taxes, and eventually the store taxes. The farmer's price to the manufacturer reflects the taxes he has to pay in his price. The manufacturer’s price reflects the farmer's taxes and his own taxes. The price of bread also includes the price of transportation taxes from the farmer to the manufacturer to the store! It is estimated that between $.55 to $.80 of every $1.00 spent on a loaf of bread is directly equated to embedded taxes! Not only does the government tax me right off the top with my income, but it then takes at least half of what's remaining in embedded taxes! The tax system has become so corrupt that it forces people to become dependent upon the government. I have seen some of my college students take on summer jobs wherein they have worked hard and have made enough money before taxes to pay for their tuition, room and board, and everything wherein to go to school and graduate out of debt. However, as they file their taxes, at least 30% of what they've made goes right off the top to the government. This puts them so far in the hole that they have to rely on government grants and other loans to actually get through school. Our tax system makes dependant slaves out of our future generation! What lessons are we teaching our children?! What do I say to my students to keep them fighting on? Why should they work hard to graduate out of debt when they can simply get a handout from the government? They become so dejected that they give up and become reliant on government services for the rest of their lives!! Is THIS a merciful system? A system that teaches the people to live off the government?! Our country was made great because people worked and were able to use the fruit of their labors to progress forward! Now we destroy initiative by these damned tax codes!! I have yet to find a government that actually became smaller over time!! We won't get rid of our tax system until it has bankrupted our country and destroyed the spirit of initiative that made us great!

    I would have to agree with this statement but IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY! Our Policy-makers have made this statement true. CHANGE THE WAY YOU LOOK AT THINGS AND THE THINGS YOU LOOK AT WILL CHANGE!

    The power to tax is the power to destroy, therefore it should be strictly limited. It is not so much the greed of the people that is to blame but the greed of our representatives for they tax us for their own private gain. Time to take away their power to lay debt upon the people for things we would be better to fund ourselves. If we were indeed a rich and prosperous country, then some of these programs the government gives money to would be OK, but we are bankrupt! No credit card company in the world would let any of us keep spending and spending without limit -- sooner or later they say, pay up or your card is cancelled. But not Congress, they have one credit card (T-Bills they print up) to pay for another credit card (Federal Reserve Notes issued by the Federal Reserve) -- each is used to pay the interest on the other. This is what our representatives have done to us while they rake in billions of borrowed 'money' as profits while We The People pay the monthly interest payments which now require 40% of our labors here in America -- and rising! How do we make them stop? We are like losing gamblers at the roulette table hoping the next spin will cover our losses -- but the game is fixed and sooner or later we must pay the piper. That is the price of giving away too much power to our 'representatives' -- and our Constitution, if followed, would have prevented such an abuse of power. If only the populace weren't so enamoured with bread and circuses... er, junk food and entertainment.

    Read my comment above. It is children who believe a society can live without taxation. Read some history y'all. If taxes are so bad why have they existed for ever and ever with no end in sight either. "Taxes are the basis of civilization" go live in a jungle, no taxation there.

    Waffler, its funny (not haha) how you have such a selective memory, only furthering your own ignorant propaganda. Just yesterday I said "No government can exist without taxes. The question arises: 'how or what to tax without enslaving the sovereign or lessening freedom and liberty'". The written Constitution, supported by fiscal law and moral principle, was an excellent foundation." I know Logan and others have also commented on the need for taxes. I've not read anyone on this blog that advocates no lawful taxation. By the way, what jungle are you talking about?

    Mike the quote was referreing to taxes period!. Not good or bad taxes, taxes!. And that was what I was commenting on. Now if you want to get into the details of good and bad then lets get holt of the devil and have a decent discussion. You know that is where the devil is in the details. This site is not about details but about platitudes.

    Maybe, but taxation is necessary! And honestly, I think we don't get taxed enough... our medical programs are bad, tuition for increasingly underfunded schools is going up, our roads are falling apart, our senior citizens are struggling just to get by... the list goes on and on. Didn't someone say, "I like taxes. With them, I buy civilization?"

    Anonymous are you nuts. Our schools are not underfunded. More money is spent per student in the USA than any other country on earth. Watch "The Cartel" and see why we have such a low level of education in this country.

    I want to know where there is a republic with representatives that represent the individual sovereign's rights. The occupying statist theocracy infesting this land absolutely does "NOT" represent 'We The People' or ,our inalienable rights. If there were a body politic that represented the rights of the individual sovereign there would be no income or property tax.
