Honorable people should live by the Golden Rule. Thus they expect honorable actions from others. Living this way generally works out. When the other fails in this regard then the honorable person should change their opinion and appreciate how dishonorable the other is. To distrust all others as a matter of policy is a lousy way to live. Do you expect to be trusted, are you a person of your word and of honor? Cal most transactions among people is still conducted in accordance with the concept of "good will", "fair and honest dealing". It is amazing that those who are skeptical about government are also skeptical about there fellow man. Waffler, it's true that most transactions between people on a day to day basis are accomplished by following the golden rule. It is only when money enters the picture that the golden rule and love thy neighbor goes out the window as we turn off the golden rule and greed sets the new ethics for what is right or wrong and money, celebrity, and power over others is most important in life. How much power, feuled by the greed of others, are people willing to give up before they can't take it anymore? That is the question.  -- Anon      1
Absolutely true, and Waffler displays the convoluted thinking required to ignore painful truths. Of course his tune would be different if the Republicans were in the Oval Office and the majority in Congress. He doesn't call himself 'Waffler' for nothing! Listen, the Founders were honorable men, for the most part, and they knew the temptations that come with power. The Constitution was written to place checks and balances upon government officers so that any dishonorable act could be prevented by the other branches. Power corrupts and the Founders knew it. The talking heads of today are not independent, they are paid actors, and toe the line if they want to keep their jobs. That is why TV talk show celebrities do not cover stories that expose the dishonorable actions of their employers. The cause of humankind is the same as it has always been -- Truth, Love, and Courage -- if we aspire to further these ideals through our actions, we will prosper beyond our wildest imaginations, but Lies, Hatred, and Fear are the tools of the 'dark side' and do indeed lead to bondage and suffering -- and I am not talking about the afterlife!
