to be able to spend your life in your own way,
and not to give others absurd maddening claims upon it."

That's our government, absurd and maddening.

What tripe... success in life is so much more than just self-centered thumbing your nose at others...

Self-evident to those that desire to spend one's life in one's own way. The rest are but sheep who believe their rulers when they are told, 'you belong to me, what's yours is mine'.

    A. Reston, the classic unAmerican Communist who does not believe people have the right to live their own lives. They must be able to put a gun to our heads and control us thru there best friends, an intrusive government and a confiscatory tax system so we can service the wants of the lazy and stupid.

Morley says military personnel, certain clerics, and others who operate under orders cannot live successfully. Rubbish! It depends on how far out of step one wishes to march. It is seldom very practical to form one's own parade. Very risky and definitely not required for success.

In a free society where I could live the golden rule without compelled compliance, license, theft of the labor's fruits, torture to get information, forced charity - ID, and other absurd maddening claims upon me, life would be spent on a much higher successful plain. (welcome back Jack)

Self reliance and independance are the American way. It is what made us a great nation and it is what we should all be doing in order to contribute to the greater good. If we are all responsible for ourselves, and not a drain on others we contribute in a way that can not even be imagined by the left and their ant-like mentality. Some of us are right at home in our natural environment while others must cling to some invisible and unreliable form of "security". The world must be a very scary place for them...poor dears. ;-)

Jack and Reston are so predictable, but then Socialists always are.

Thank goodness the Ant's out-number the Grasshopper's in "Liberty Tree." It is so sad that there are those who do not believe in their own self-reliance and personal responsibility. Thank goodness for our founders who believed in "Marching to their own parade" or the naysayers would not even have a forum like this to address their continuous onslaught of negative opinions.

I love this quote!  I refer to "maddening claims" frequently when making an argument for liberty, independence, and self-reliance.  Somehow the socialists seem to think that without the state's claims upon our person, property, and labors, society would fall.  Quite the opposite in every respect.

It is the socialist that is selfish, laying claim to what is not his, that depends on the state for his welfare, in which everyone is either an 'expert' to be obeyed or a sheep to be shorn.  Talk about "maddening" ...

From the mentally healthy perspective, those absurd maddening claims are probably crys from those in poor mental condition for assistance.
