There are two sides to every story and that's no different for the war of Northern aggression. History written by the victorious hidden behind the Lincoln Memorial's and all the accolades to the man the real Lincoln is kept hidden by historical gatekeepers. If you think for one minute that the states would've ratified the Constitution if they thought for one minute they would be unable to leave the union utilizing their own self-determination they would never have ratified it. Centralization that was done by Lincoln made it possible for the out of control government we have now endlessly growing! People for generations were raised with the honest Abe myth no wonder it's so hard for people to accept the truth about him It sets up a very uncomfortable cognitive dissonance. Defining "right" here, would be the point of demarcation. By example: if right includes "truth" — truth is an absolute; only views, interpretations, perspectives, etc. thereof change (being accurate is not always the absolute truth). If we be "truth", we will also be right. What of "love's" inclusion into "right's" definition? If "liberty" is right, then compelled compliance, government licenses, victimless crimes, larceny with impunity (2nd plank of the communist manifesto, Social Security, police state confiscations, etc.) AND, denial of individual sovereignty and inalienable rights is/are VERY WRONG. Lincoln had a lot of great sayings, this is one of them. However, once parted, expect the 'wrong' to fight back. The nation was being torn in two by the international banks that thrive on war and conquest. Lincoln was trying to keep the Union together — he never stated his intention to be otherwise. Slavery was a secondary issue, as well as State sovereignty. So while I do appreciate Lincoln's commitment to saving the Union, the very means of which and ultimate end was not the freeing of the slaves but the servitude of all to the federal State as supreme. Republican form of government cannot abide by such a reversal of the source of power. SO what ended up 'winning' was federal statism to ever grow and transform the free republic to de facto authoritarianism in which all are subjects to the State (which incidentally is nothing but a class of other people). -- E Archer, NYC
