I would rephrase that, stating that "No one should smoke! I mean, if you want to smoke, no one's gonna stop you, but you shouldn't.

(-: Anonymous, I'm with you, they should have said something really sick, like: what do you tell a woman with 2 black eyes that you haven't already told her twice before; oh wait, that would be obviously to blatant even for the Nazis. Like the statist theocracy of today, they will be much kinder, gentler and illusive in their health care propaganda.

An apparent well meaning dictum but what makes it propagnada is that it was a lie when published. Its meaning was obviously that "A German woman SHOULD not smoke." Now that would not be a bad bit of public or medical policy for any population even theough it still sounds a bit sexist. But we read every day things such as "pregnant women should not smoke" etcetera. I know of religious organizations that require members not to smoke as a matter of fellowship.

perfect example of the Nazi mindset. Totalitarian government is for the good of the people. It's all coming here. May look like it is different but the mentality is the same. As usual Waffler you are dead wrong. They did not mean that a woman should not smoke they meant that they do not smoke if they are obedient German citizens. National health care was a big issue of Adolph. National control of health care will ultimately extend to control every facet of our lives. Any and everything that might increase the cost of care will be either denied or heavily taxed. We will decide what to eat drink or do based on what the government deems acceptable.

ANOTHER INDICATION THAT SO MUCH OF MODERN DAY SOCIETY IS A GROWING IMITATION OF THOSE WHO WERE AT ONE TIME OUR HATED ENEMY. (And it seems to be o.k. with most people who have a minimalist public education.)

I noticed there was only one intelligent remark on this entire list of comments. I find that disturbing.

Warren, and good Mormons and good Seventh-day Advnetist and many other good people do not smoke. A good child does not smoke. Public health is a concern of most societies. Public health officials tell us that pregnant women should not smole. The Nazi or German construction was a lie, since they could not guarantee the truth of their statement. Language construction like this is also found on some highway signs. Most of us our taught what good people should and should not do.

Give it a rest, Waffler. The quote is obviously an example of fascism. Or perhaps the editor was simply trying to warn us about the dangers of smoking... I think not. The idea that the State should 'mold' the people, and that the people should obey, is a very dangerous road to follow as the government is always a hypocrite in the end -- just look at Obama, a tobbaco addict who will want others to pay for the damage of his (and other smokers') health due to smoking. Zero accountability, zero responsibility, 100% obedience, all of your property and all of your labors -- that is all the government requires for you to be good little citizens. Zeig heil!
