"It's ours to right the great wrong done,
Ten thousand years ago --
The State, conceived in blood and hate,
Remains our only foe!
Oh, join us, brothers, join us, sisters,
Victory is nigh!
Come meet your fate, destroy the State,
And raise black banners high!"

As much as I respect Rothbard...I'm going to assume he was into the Tequila a little bit that day. (Black Banners?)
He's generally right though...Our Government is more than a little bit evil.

I find myself agreeing with Rothbard more often than not. Here, I think J Carlton touched on a possible reason for the - what ? Though the current occupying statist theocracy now infesting this land should be replaced by a republic at law, representing the sovereign individual's rights, limited by an ordering constitution, such does not rise to the level of right the great wrong done (?) or, the ten thousand year ago State that was conceived in blood and hate (?) or, destroying the State (?) or, raising a black banner (?).

I don't believe the government was "conceived" in blood and hate unless the blood refers to that of patriots at the end of a revolution...I believe it was conceived nobly then slowly bought and controlled into what we have today...an entirely evil entity. And will not personally take a stand for liberty under a black banner. I prefer the stars and stripes, the stars and bars...or the maple leaf. All three have been proud symbols of freedom in the past.

;-) I like it! Where in history can we find an example of tyranny being reformed? Every now and then the slaves must revolt. Sic semper tyrannis!

The super-State of Washington, DC was not a creation of patriots or the Constitution. The State today does not recognize the sovereignty of the several states or the common man. Indeed the State has been conceived in blood and hate, absolutely, for that is how it has stolen its power. DC is at war in dozens of countries and fortifying its power in the 'homeland' as well. The State thrives on hatred -- hatred of those evil heathens who 'hate us for our freedom,' hatred of those that will not bow to its dictates, the love of 'shock and awe' and big explosions. DC, the super-State was NOT conceived by our founders -- it is far from what was conceived and fought for. As long as we cling to the belief that we can 'reform' the State to its original intent. the longer this tyranny will continue. The all-powerful State has taken on a life of its own and the beast consumes all unless we starve it. It will not reform itself.

It's catchy, just need it to go viral!

When Libertarians use the term "state", they are referring to any form of government, not just the USSA/Russia/PRK/PRC/UK/EU/etc.

I evovled this into a full song:

It's ours to right the great wrong done,
    Ten thousand years ago --
The State, conceived in blood and hate,
    Remains our only foe!
Oh, join us, brothers, join us, sisters,
    Victory is nigh!
Come meet your fate, destroy the State,
    And raise black banners high!

The chains we wear are forged from lies,
By kings and clerks and laws –
They promise peace, but feed the beast
    That lives on war’s applause.
But we shall tear the idols down,
    Expose each priest and spy,
And in the dust, reclaim our trust –
    Black banners to the sky!

No rulers need we, none shall stand
To steal what we create –
The forge is hot, the will is steel,
We do not beg the State.
In markets free and peaceful bonds,
    True order shall arise –
Where once were graves, new gardens bloom
    Beneath unclouded skies.

So rise, ye slaves of tax and draft,
    Your masters cannot last!
No throne shall stand, no badge command,
    When we erase the past.
From tyrants torn, a world reborn –
The old gods left to die!
Come meet your fate, destroy the State,
    And raise black banners high!

The state was just a necessity of a primitive beast inclination living in a turberlent world of chaos and confusion. Little by little this dubious, but amazingly developing state condition could enable this primitive homosapien the possibility of developing institutional subcompartments  leading to a more thorough understanding of the community and social dynamic.
