"This will be the day when all of God's children
will be able to sing with a new meaning:
'My country, 'tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty,
of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrim's pride,
from every mountainside,
let freedom ring.'
And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.
So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.
Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.
Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania!
Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado!
Let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of California!
But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia!
Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee!
Let freedom ring from every hill and every molehill of Mississippi.
From every mountainside, let freedom ring."

It's a great quote, but credit should be given to Rev. Archibald Carey, Jr. who said it first in 1952 at the Republican National Convention.

Credit should be given to the actual author Rev. A. Carey. Especially on a site as yours. By allowing this matter you are condoning plagiarism.

The source of the MLK quote is the speech given in 1963. There are MANY quotes by people who have taken 'liberties' with old quotes, and we do not attempt to refute every one of them. We have the Archibald Carey quote in our db, too, as per E Archer's comment above. We have added the link to the source field.

If you heard it, "I Have A Dream" (as it became known) was the most inspiring impromtu speech you ever heard. It ignited the Civil Rights movement & is still as inspriational as that Aug day when we marched on Washington DC!

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was an inspiration to many and was of all one of the greatest public speakers who spoke for freedom and his race and everything that he has said should be respected even if he used other peoples examples and put it as his.
