Depends on what principles of the church are noted. Principles of individual freedom can be found in almost all religions and in particular christianity. These principles are not antagonistic with the fundamental theory of self government and so support our Constitution rather than cause its failure. The quote is misleading I.M.O. though it has some basic truth to it.  -- Anon
I'm not sufficiently privy to the principles of the church of Rome to compare them to the Constitution.Both Waffler and Anon do set forth observations worth noting and investigating. The one recent Papal declaration concerning 'one world money' that I am aware of is in direct violation to the Constitution, principles of prosperity and sound fiscal law but, that is not enough information for me to make a full comparison. I am sufficiently privy to the principles of the Constitution to know the current statist theocracy that now infests this nation is in open and direct antagonism to such fundamental principles and theory of said Constitution.  -- Mike, Norwalk

Jesus talked about the practices of Rome indirectly when He said, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat." (Matt 23:2-3) Which was to say, some people will try to overrule what even God Himself has said, and will force you into submission (if they can). And Rome even haughtily, audaciously admits this: “[The pope holds] upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Papal Encyclical, “The Reunion of Christendom," 1885, Pope Leo XIII) It cannot be said that every Catholic believes the pope can dismiss the Constitution, nor even that every pope is of the same authoritarian mindset in every age. But understand that the machine of Rome produces such comments as the following, it trains the minds of its priests who train the minds of the young adherents, and for this reason we must always keep a wary eye on Rome: “There is only reason for this evil [over individual conscience - pm], and that remedy is absolute and blind obedience to a prudent director. Choose one, consult him as often as you desire, but do not leave him for another., Then submit punctiliously to his direction. His conscience must be yours for the time being. The Vatican has had to keep up with the times to keep their followers. Centuries ago the Roman Catholic Church was superior to even the monarchs of Europe -- all had to be confirmed by the Pope. Jefferson had a disdain for the Jesuit missionaries -- many of the Founders agreed as the new world was a bastian for Protestant followers. But the practice of predatory banking and a corrupt money system far out weigh any danger posed by the Catholic church.
