and so they invent them as needed... just as man has invented the gods & goddesses to meet our need to feel special...

Our Constitution specifically addresses this with a policy of non-intervention. This was in order to deter Imperialism and Foreign Entanglements. And look where we are today...broke and carrying half the planet in the name of US (Corporate) Interests. And now we're being colonized by the very people who were presented as the "face of evil" on 911. Ironic isn't it?

Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it. ~ Douglas MacArthur

Another one I'm not sure how to rate or comment on with stars. The statement is accurate on its face. BUT of course, it is a justification to remain unconstitutional, a war mongering people, be ready to put down any freedom movements in our own country, enact imperialism, and be the police agency for the world bankers. hmmm, OK, thumbs down

The 'A' from reston, your gods and goddesses comment is most accurate in todays feel good esteem education of government schools. The statist theocracy at which you worship uses the quote to expand its military (including local police) to attack all that do not worship in obedience to its socialist dogmas.

I am getting a little tired of hearing that the US military is bombing some new nation because of "American interests." What is not an American interest? Where in the Constitution have we authorized our federal government to protect and defend "American interests"? That would be de facto omnipotence. These 'American interests' are PRIVATE business concerns or a military base -- why was a military base created? To protect American interests. It is one of those phrases that is told to us everyday and it is assumed that wherever there is an American interest, the military has a duty to 'protect.' "Hey, I am really interested in your oil." "No problem, bomb 'em!" Hey, Reston, there may not be a god, but there sure are a lot of devils -- many of them in high office. It sure would be nice if the American people could oust its own cabal instead of letting them wage war incessantly.

Archer you reminded me of something I heard said once: "Hey what's all that Arab sand doing on top of OUR OIL?" There's your US Interests alright...

Paranoia resides deep in some folks psyche. That is not say we should go around complacently. The desire to influence and yes control the world about us is universal. The US became a world leader by default at the end of WWII. Obama and Co. are trying to lead with a cooperative approach. Read and listen to the Libyan gambit. Bush and Co, believed that cooperting in the world would weaken the USA so he took a cowboy approach. I suggest that things appropos are improving under Obama. 4 more years, 4 more years!

You bet Waffler, Obama's the man! 4 trillion dollars later and look how much better we're doing. The country is collapsing we're losing the last of our rights and we still have an imposter in the White House...Yup! Utopia...Obama the Kenyan is an embarrassment to every decent American who ever lived.

And the U.S. military is the necessary power for the billionaires to sustain perpetual war. With 800 plus military bases in more than 125 countries, total control of MSM, and the aid of religious nonsense democracy is a thing of the past. The only enemy of the powerful is thinking people and they are in short supply. Orwell's '1984' was a few decades premature but right on in reality.

All shall pass, even Egypt, Greece, Babylon , Roman Empires had passed , so will the new world order ( NWO ). Dont mind them, all is like a chaff before the wind. Have faith in God and do His commandments. Behold I create a New World of Peace and Heaven, says YAHWAH ( God ) and its going to LAST FOREVER

So what? We all (well maybe most) would prefer there be no enemies and therefore no need for a military.
