Well said. The founding fathers recognized that the people may become complacent about their liberties, and fail to recognize threats to them, both foreign and domestic. This quotation is reminiscent of something Sir Winston Churchill said, “Success is never final.”

The last group that needs to say anything about liberty is the ACLU. This group hasn't the slightest idea of what true liberty is; it only cares about the freedoms that fall in line with their slanted political views.

The ACLU is a front for the liberals of America who would love to see this great nation disapear.

I wonder how long it took them to come up with such a shallow quote. And I bet they sat around and patted each other on the back saying "Look how great and wise we are". Turds.

Not shooting the messenger, the quote is a fairly accurate depiction of administrative politics. That being said, my definition of liberty usually differs greatly from the ACLU.

I believe the organization was originally founded by a communist, which would explain a great deal. 90% of the time they are on the wrong side of common sense liberty and is merely a front organization.

WHA' !!??!! The ACLU in favor of liberty ? Well, I suppose ( but do not KNOW ) that most / all of us can find an item we champion as being a part of liberty -- or freedom. The catch, in my not totally educated eye, is the degree to which liberty and freedom can become license. Don't most of us agree that democracy without some constraints becomes lawless and chaotic nonsense? Maybe the conjunction of 'democracy' with 'republic' ( democratic republic ) takes the too sharp edge off the freedom of rabble-rousers. Guess I need more thinking.

The aclu, preys upon the ignorance of the masses within the democratic process ! They are %@#%^, dung on the ground !
We are a Hybrid Free Republic, under siege ! not a democracy !

Not shooting the messenger, the quote is bang on. There's always going to be a right and a left -- to expect otherwise is a philosophical impossibility. The Christian Right is the other side of the coin -- trying to impose Leviticus upon a free people.

As long as it's not Christian liberty! Roger Baldwin, founder of ACLU was a card carrying Communist and rabid anti-Christian. Our Constitution is valid only for a Christian and moral society. A lot of pure evil is being done in the name of "liberty" and the intent and context of the Constitution being used to further destructive agendas.
Yeah, that's rich coming from ACLU.
