Maybe this was true in 1850, though I doubt it. Today, ALL of the politicians are BLACKMAILED. The FBI keeps blackmail files on the whole of Political Society. ALL of the politicians in the US are on strings. The CIA ensures they are thoroughly corrupted, before they're allowed to hold office. The CIA hosts pedophile sex parties for senior politicians and feeds them drugs and knows every time they accepted bribes. They're getting led around by their short hairs. NONE of the politicians in America have principles. They're a den of vipers. PolyTicks, blood suckers every one.

Another hysterical leap Hanson? Yes there are men of principle in both parties and all are entirely restrained by a system so corrupt it can not be repaired. Thankfully the majority of Americans are principled, moral people and they are no longer tolerating the parasite class.

I'm sure, if there were a scavenger hunt, a few politicians with principles could be found.

There are people of high principle in both major US parties - though one man's "principle" often results in another man's undeserved cage - or worse. Having principle does not, for a single second, render an individual immune to corruption. Newport's DVK nails exactly why highly principled people cannot survive unstained in D.C. Those who wonder how corruption of sincere, dedicated public servants is accomplished should ask themselves: are YOU, is ANYONE completely immune to corrupting influences of EVERY kind? I submit only if they're Christ or non-human, a Spock, bereft of all desire and every appetite.

The Libertarian party is the only party of principle. I gave up on the republicrats a while back.

Only an individual can have principles, and a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. A group/party is only as honorable as the sum, and one bad apple CAN spoil the bunch. It is hard enough for a man to live according to his principles, harder still a group. Libertarians by very definition are not 'party' men (partiers, maybe ;-). Of course most party-men believe THEIR party is the principled party and the 'other guys' are despicable. Same for religion as we are worked up into a fervor over Muslims thus justifying the unforgivable slaying of thousands upon thousands of civilians 'for our security.' If and when honor is ever restored in American representation, We the People may actually realize the American dream. It is up to the individual -- lots of individuals -- and eventually the delusion will fall of its own weight.

Tocqueville, a classical economic liberal, sought to understand the difference between American and European forms of government. He wished to democratise and centralize the French state. Thinking America to be a democracy was his first mistake.
Then to side with the northern siblings of Monarchies was his next mistake. Opportunity, property rights, standard of living, he mused over, yet he fails to understand Individual Sovereignty granted in American Republicanism providing the opportunity. This lack of understanding still seen in France and Europe today. The conservative principled voters, Regardless of party, have now elected President Donald J. Trump, to clean house and take out the trash. hang um if need be. Passiveness is not becoming of a more excellent form of government when protecting your own family and home. To be a sincere Patriot of Liberty and Freedom defined within America transcends party bias. Short term hardships in the Restoration of our Constitutional Republic will reap great gains for American Patriots. MAGA First, then consider globalist classical liberals observations of prosperity and immigration.
