will not be those who cannot read and write,
but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn."

I read his first couple of books; scary, the ant farm they have designed for humanity and, the accuracy at which their events and time lines are unfolding... Not shooting the messenger, very accurate. Man kind needs to learn what the laws of nature and of nature's god are, what sovereign's inalienable rights are, and what true liberty and freedom are. The majority are slave patrons who would benefit from unlearning the socialist programing set forth by the statist theocracy infesting this land; and, relearn the principles that made the once de jure States united a representative republic

Unfortunatly, the illiterate of this century seem to be electing our leaders and some of these illiterates have college degrees.

It depends on your definition of illiterate - as far as current affairs, matters of government, reason and ethics are concerned there is even a bigger gap. The illiterate of the 21st century are those who blindly follow without question, blindly believe what they are told by the corporate media, and by their government. And, yes, we do not learn or unlearn; and as for relearn is concerned, you can,t relearn what you haven't learned, and by God, most have never truly learned. This does beg the question, what is learning? OK I asked for it! Learning: As Jeff Cobb said: Learning is the lifelong process of transforming information and experience into knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes. This may help: http://www.thegreatcourses.com/tgc/courses/Course_Detail.aspx?cid=4278 As Alexander the Great said, "Give me a soldier that knows nothing and I'll make a General of him"

Americans are indeed awakening to the fact that they have been (and are currently being) propagandized, indoctrinated, and programmed to OBEY without question everything the 'authorities' tell them. I believe that the drive to be free of control is strong in most people from childhood -- that is why it takes so much effort and constant bombardment to 'break' that spirit. You can still find that spark in the 'illiterate' of the 3rd world where a man has to be very ingenious to survive in a game rigged to favor the 'masters.' If only our children could get a real education the first go round so that they wouldn't require so much de-programming in order to see the world for what it is. Man, if the people ever truly wake up, the ruling class will be done for! There is a WHOLE lot more of us than there are of them.

The ignorant of the 21st century are those that do not ask questions.  The truth is not broadcast, it is sought out.  The truth is a destroyer of illusions and delusions, which is why most do not seek it but rather make excuses.  The same as in the 20th century and every century before that...

I would suggest to everyone reading Toffler's earliest books (easy reads). Being one of the illuminates, Toffler 'learns' & 'relearns' those who read, how and what order the future will occur. As Archer said so well above, learning and relearning the truth will destroy illusions and delusions.
