"We live in a dirty and dangerous world. There are some things the
general public does not need to know, and shouldn't. I believe
democracy flourishes when the government can take legitimate steps
to keep its secrets and when the press can decide whether to print
what it knows."

I believe there is a string of truth woven through the quote but, the in fact real world application there of displays the 4 departments of government's (executive, legislative, judicial, & the press) elimination of liberty, the individual sovereign's ability to have an educated mastery over the republic, and legitimate representation.

The most dirty and dangerous thing about our world is the fact that people in power like Katherine Graham wish to keep their dirty work secret. Now that is dangerous.

Unfortunately that road too is a very dirty. What is absolute must remain absolute and that is truth in all things - how we mess that up is another story.

Yes, we do live in a dirty dangerous world -- more the reason to keep our servant government under constant surveillance and scrutiny. Men/Women with power can no more be trusted than those that seek it.

That people like Katherine Graham think they know what is good for me is truly communist and anti-American. People like her often act unconstitutionally with an excuse of "it's for your own good." Because there are dangers in this world is why I carry a concealed handgun.

I am amazed she had the gall to say out loud what is in the minds of those who wish to oppress a people

I agree with what she is saying. We do live in a dirty and dangerous world. She is definitely right.

Actually Joe, this sounds more authoritarian than communistic to me. But I do agree completely that this is anti-American.

shes a cunt! did I say that out loud? If the US would stop meddling in the world affairs and end their manipulation of those same affairs, we would be better off! The only national security interest or what I like to refer is motive, is MONEY! Nothing more!

this is anachronistic, oppressive and very self-serving, coming from the owner of one of the most prominent newspapers in the nation. A ridiculous quote altogether!

History has shown many times that some things should remain secret until people have matured enough to be responsible with the information and not start another war or discontent.
