"The history of civilized man is the history of the incessant conflict between liberty and authority. Each victory for liberty marked a new step in the world's progress; so we can measure the advance of civilization by the amount of freedom acquired by human institutions."

Reader comments about this quote:
The "yoke of bondage" and the ancient doctrines of Liberty. Incessant conflict, demands a "welfare box" and oppression placed upon all. Therefore the fight for the throne of rulership and the ability to tax. Upright is a king who would set his children at Liberty, Upright is a nation who would Declare Liberty as an unalienable right of its freed people, with Freedom to defend it.

"The history of civilized man is the history of the incessant conflict between liberty and authority."

True today as ever. Do you know which side you are on?

Civilized/moral man's history is replete with said incessant conflict. The carnal man is an enemy to liberty, inalienable rights and man's inherent nobility. History of governments actions are observed differently than man's relationship to government. Government's history is replete with how best to make helots, serfs and slaves out of willing (unwilling) patrons to the power (liberty not being considered).
