"Schools have not necessarily much to do with education...
they are mainly institutions of control,
where basic habits must be inculcated in the young.
Education is quite different and has little place in school."
by:
Sir Winston Churchill
(1874-1965) Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1940-1945, 1951-1955)

You get out of school no more than you and your parents and your local community put into it. There are many good schools that do teach one to think. That there are some that do not does not make them all bad. Nor does disagreement with the politics and world view of one person make the institutions they attend bad (lets recall, Yale & Harvard both had their hands in on King George W, yet he is not their fault... no, he belongs to those fools who would allow the power brokers to install him into control).

I have attended various public, private, and religious schools in my lifetime. Some taught us to think, some taught us to obey, others taught us to believe, and there were 'rebel' teachers in every school that treated us like human beings. For the most part, the schools in the best neighborhoods got the best teachers and facilities -- there are some top notch public schools in the USA, but there are 1000s of mediocre ones. Most private schools are dedicated to getting graduates into good universities. But the education system itself is designed to control the flow of new workers into the workplace without competing with those already there. For the most part we are simply prepared to be obedient employees.

Schools, grammar, jr and sr are a place to learn basic skills of study and learning. Once one learns to study he can then learn and do anything. That is what college is for.

I have come to believe that modern public schools are neither places of education, or even re-education. They have become places of de-education. When students enter school more knowledgeable than they leave it, then one can only conclude that the goal of the school is to create ignorance. Of course the ignorant are easy to manipulate. Pliable, manipulable people are the product of public education.

I agree with the earlier statement about indoctrination. American public schools indoctrinate instead of educate.

"Understanding" is a gift to be used carefully, give me a child, then the choice is to raise, confidence with compassion or confidence with tyranny. Understanding is a thirteen letter word, Rebellion can be justifiable or condemned. Choose wisely, our Founding Fathers did. Socialism with its arrogant, assumptive INDOCTRINATION, breeds contempt and hatred among its constituents ! Strait from the horses mouth comes praise of its owner, or contempt and hatred of the Tyrannical Slave Taskmaster ! Churchill was a Very Wise Man with Excellent Counsel !
