Almost funny. The States united under the premise that the Constitution would guarantee a Republic free of a democracy and, the government would be a government of law, not of people. A government of, by and for the people has little to no resemblance to the current statist theocracy that now infests this land, 4 years at a time or otherwise.

Unforunately, what we now have more closely resembles "regime change" than it does an administration of a sovereign nation.

Thank goodness we have only two more years left on this administration.

We are not a Democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic. Democracy, "majority rules,"and is another form of Tyranny. Excerpt from an article by Walter Williams for World Net Daily in January 2005 The Constitution's Article IV, Section 4, guarantees "to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government." Moreover, let's ask ourselves: Does our pledge of allegiance to the flag say to "the democracy for which it stands," or does it say to "the republic for which it stands"? Or do we sing "The Battle Hymn of the Democracy" or "The Battle Hymn of the Republic"? John Adams captured the essence of the difference when he said, "You have rights antecedent to all earthly governments; rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the Universe." Nothing in our Constitution suggests that government is a grantor of rights. Instead, government is a protector of rights. Chief Justice John Marshall observed, "Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos." The Founders knew that a democracy would lead to the same kind of tyranny the colonies suffered under King George III. If it becomes necessary our Constitution has provided for the removal from office of the president and/or the vice president In Article 11, section 4.

In Canada, a vote of 'no confidence' is possible to call for another election when a Prime Minister has screwed up enough. No need to wait for the next election. This democracy vs. republic thing is too general -- there are democratic procedures and elections in a republican form of government -- it is the checks and balances that have been removed that give 'democracy' its over reach. It is a matter of JURISDICTION -- what may be voted on. The federal government has over reached its jurisdiction and laid claim to every state and district and all the people within. It is not that America has become a 'democracy' it is that the US government has usurped the powers and rights of the states and the people so that those elected now have more and more power over the rest of us. Forget about the democracy vs. republic debate -- it is about JURISDICTION, the LIMITS to government authority. How do we get our representatives to stay within the limits dictated by the Constitution? THAT is the question!
