"Ours was the first revolution in the history of mankind that truly reversed the course of government, and with three little words: 'We the people.' 'We the people' tell the government what to do, it doesn't tell us. 'We the people' are the driver, the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast. Almost all the world's constitutions are documents in which governments tell the people what their privileges are. Our Constitution is a document in which 'We the people' tell the government what it is allowed to do. 'We the people' are free. This belief has been the underlying basis for everything I've tried to do these past eight years."

How true. Simple fact that few, even in high office understand. Even those that do choose to ignore it.

I think it sounds fantastic if only it were true, we are kept on a relatively short leash, with just enough of the essentials to lull us into the illusion that we are living the good life. I feel we are totally in the dark when it comes to what the government is doing with our minds, our bodies (general health) and our tax money.

I'll have to agree with Dawn. The government taxes us then uses the money to socially engineer our behavior to some bureaucrat's liking. That is not happens to free people.

Classic Reagan. Why can't a liberal agree with that?

I am of a liberal mind quite often and I agree with Reagan on this quote. So when you criticize the government and its' employees who are your neighbors look around and especially look into the mirror. Ultimately the government is you! Can anyone tell me of a time when people liked their "government". It is a human foilble that no one wants to be governed. What we need is a governable people. People who don't pollute, don't kill, steal, and don't hire illegal aliens etcetera. Until we get that I suggest we all support our government (local, state, federal) to take care of these matters for us and with our assistance.

If only it were true today - We need another Ronald Reagan!

Who would have thought in a few short years 'We tbe People' could have been turned upside down? We now have a 'decoder' and to hell with the people.

Reagan's words do not apply to our government today. Not at all. Dawn and Ken have it right. The Bush administration is being allowed to overturn Congress almost at will courtesy of Congress itself - both sides of the aisle. Pitiful.

Reagan was an idealist who truly believed - or wanted desperately to believe - that the country we grew up being taught about is the one we all really live in...and he upheld the notion (in spirit, at least) as well as any. Unfortunately, those words do not apply today, nor apparently did they then. Dawn, Ken, A., are sadly correct. You have to go back to Eisenhower's last address to see how far gone our "freedom" really is. He tried to warn us.

Oh, this is so true. America is not as free as it once was, or how it should be. The concept of the role of government has been drastically changes ever since January 2009. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
