"We ask that government undertake the obligation above all of providing citizens with adequate opportunity for employment and earning a living. The activities of the individual must not be allowed to clash with the interests of the community, but must take place within the confines and be for the good of all. Therefore, we demand: ... an end to the power of financial interest. We demand profit sharing in big business. We demand a broad extension of care for the aged. We demand ... the greatest possible consideration of small business in the purchases of the national, state, and municipal governments. In order to make possible to every capable and industrious [citizen] the attainment of higher education and thus the achievement of a post of leadership, the government must provide an all-around enlargement of our system of public education.... We demand the education at government expense of gifted children of poor parents.... The government must undertake the improvement of public health -- by protecting mother and child, by prohibiting child labor -- by the greatest possible support for all groups concerned with the physical education of youth. [W]e combat the ... materialistic spirit within and without us, and are convinced that a permanent recovery of our people can only proceed from within on the foundation of The Common Good Before the Individual Good."

This so enticing as you read it, until you recognize the source and the havoc that ensued. I wonder how many Americans would sign up for this if the source were hidden? As a friend was always delighted to remind me, "Never forget that you can fool all of the people some of the time."
 -- J. B. Wulff, Bristol, CT

I think that this goes to show that FDR was indeed a fascist along with Hitler and Mussolini as America has never turned off this road after the New Deal. It is time we started addressing the fact that the US has become a fascist state and if we don't do something drastic very very soon, history has already served as a guide for what the future will bring... wake up, America, before it is too late!!

This could easily be compared to today's political parties that are dragging us slowly to One World Fascism. The next civil war will be between We The People and...everyone else.

You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, and that usually is enough. It was enough two years ago at election time.

This was said like the governments today does, then once in and the door is lock and all hell is let loose. Love it! propaganda at its best. If this was today's agenda I would vote for this man but it was said to garner support - and now we have an inverted form of that same speech.

A perfect example of the law of unintended consequences. I think it's interesting that in the comments this quote garnered either a 0 or a 5 but that every comment itself is pretty much in agreement. I'm assuming the 5 stars simply refer to the fact that here is proof in writing that our fears are well founded about this current administration and the direction our country is headed. I'm sure there are others out there who'd give it five stars because they would actually agree with the philosophy, as long as the source was unknown. It would indeed be interesting to put the quote out there on, for example, MSNBC, without the source and see where the comments went then.

Sounds like a speech from His Lordship Sir Obama, which has fooled most of the people! In bad times there are too many of us willing to except anything put in front of our faces (desperate people in desperate times). Germany was in just that time, where a loaf of bread took a wheelbarrow of money. A man can along and promise them everything they wanted and we all know where that got them. Remember there is a sucker born every min. We all need to educate the people around us, so i give this 5 stars because of the wake up call and the warning it should give us all !

Addendum to J. B. Wuff & Jim, K. You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. But if you can fool them just once...it's good for four year.

I think this quote is excellent. If I had not seen that it had been written by the Socialist Party in 1920, I would have thought it was from Obama, goes to show you how close we are from communism.

Remember the people who wrote this quote are the same ones who sqaushed liberty for so many at the peak of its power.

The Nazi party is the very definition of tyranny and its leader, Hitler, is the poster child of evil. To adopt socialism is to embrace their motto and follow their precedence. The fact that this nation is even considering such mockery is insult to the heroes that paid the ultimate price to bring this evil empire to justice.

I notice there are no dissenting views from the liberal quadrant here...hits a little too close to home for you Nazi do-gooders, doesn't it

The truth doesn't lie. I don't even recognize this country anymore...and I don't like it.

Sounds like Occupy Wall Street.
