Leo, where do you get "liberate" from that quote? He wants to be treated as if he was a god and to destroy economic freedom. That's a dictator, not a liberator.

At least he was being honest about it... more than we can say about the Clinton family, the Kerry family, the Gore family, or the Bush family. We have 54 registered members of the "Socialist" party in the American Congress, all of whom think like Marx. Wear an athletic cup.

He is sittin upstairs with the big man right now and God is telling him, "You almost had it, you almost had it..." This quote can seem a bit dark to the average reader, but he is talking about removing the shackles that our oppressive goverments put on us by utilizing our faith to guilt us from opposing them, not removal of God in our lives. If anything, to finally allow us to live as God would see fit.

Communism has indirectly made life better for many people including those in the US. How so ? Well capitalist societies adapted by giving more freedoms to working people in order to reduce the chance of revoltion. Marx was confronting unbridled capitalism with all it's excesses so in a sense his work is part done. The US, however remains a plutocracy masquerading as a democracy. As for God, there have been many clever people throughout history who have realised that there is no creator but they have lived in times when such views would be subject to extreme persecution. Thankfully we now live in times where it is safe to question. Again, part of his work is done, but there is still much to do.

Everyone seems to think dethroning God is a bad thing. But many wars have been caused by people arguing over religion and that is not where it stops many people have been killed for what they believe in like Jehovahs Witnesses in Nazi Germany.

Marx is NOT talking like he wants to be your "God". "God" is a fictional device created by the Catholic Church to get people to believe that "if this "God" can fix my life i get off scott free with raping little boys" Fuck that. Fuck You. Fuck "God". Fuck Religious Faggots who are too scared to face what's really out there, NOTHING.

Oppression? Who was more oppressed than those who lived behind the Iron Curtain? A Godless extremely socialistic system that Marx campaigned for. And some of you actually WANT that? My God!
     -- Tim, Platte Center

The iron curtain WAS NOT a social order Marx campaigned for. He was already dead by then. As it turned out, the iron curtain was just another in a long line of bastardizations of a man's ideas, as was the Roman Catholic church through the centuries, and as is Islam today.

Karl Marx may not have campaigned for the "Iron Curtain" but that is what his philosiphies lead to. It also lead to Nazi Germany. Statism is slavery. Why do some of you want to be slaves? The state is the only institution that can force you to do anything. You have the freedom to walk away from religion anytime you want. The only time religion could be forced on anyone was when it was done so by the state.
     -- Rick, Boise

  •
One other thing. Freedom is such a precious gift purchased with so much blood. Why are so many of you willing to squander your birthright and give any credibility to the most enslaving, evil philosophy ever concived? It has been responsible for more butchery than anything in history. Marx's good intentions do not mitigate the evil of his writings.

To take this quote seriously, you have to understand its context. It mentions both Capitalism and God. Let's examine both of these concepts in the historical context. During the Industrial Revolution (before Lenin or any other of the more well-known "communists" were born), Marx and Engels observed the workhouses like that in Oliver Twist, the exorbitant wealth of the aristocracy, and the general squalor and misery that the commons had to endure. The people of the time were living in what we see today on Christian Children's Fund ads. This, a system without the benefits of modern government (free or subsidized health care, unemployment protection, and basic safety regulations) was a system that I'm sure even the most capitalistic mind today would want to at least reform. God had long been evoked by feudalists as their key to power. The same way some say that America is God's land (complete BS to me personally, but whatevs), feudalists said that God gave them a right to rule. This same argument was still being used by monarchists of the day and by the capitalists of England, where Marx and Engels lived when they wrote most of their works. Marx saw the idea of God as a tool of feudalists (opponents of the precious "America, fuck yeah!" attitude some of you hold dear, fyi) and capitalists to keep their place on top of a corrupt system. Marx and Engles wrote and died at least 30 years before the first Communists starting raising hell in Eastern Europe, so they are innocent of the deaths caused by Stalin and his ilk. Before Lenin, the tsar was very totalitarian, and the Communists could only use what they knew, which was totalitarianism. The Holdomor (massive Ukrainian famine killing 7 million people on direct orders from Moscow) was more a reflection of old Russian Imperial ideas than communist or socialist ideas. There, reply me up if you want to; I want to hear some good argument! tbasherizer at hotmail dot com

I think some of these quotes are very sick...And people need to watch their mouth...I believe in the Father who is God almighty, I believe God's son Jesus died for our sins. I believe he rose again from the dead. I also believe he is coming back again. Apparently, people with such comments do not have the fear of God. I have the fear of God and I could never use these harash words about God.God has all power in his hands. Philosophers are like us they only have their opinions having finite minds such as ourselves. Even if people don't believe, and not knowing for sure if God exist, it would still be ignorant for people to treat him as if they are so confident he doesn't. If he was to come back now and they see him for themselves, how do they explain such bad conduct to a Supreme being, God himself! I am not shocked at what the devil might do but somebody is not thinking or using any logic in what they are saying...I say watch it pal..You may be next in line for hell.

His goal was to make state the highest authority by removing not only God, but any entity higher than the state (numbing: the people's morals with 'political correctness' and 'tolerance' which aren't even correct in definition, education to remove any chance of questioning the mask socialism has taken with so-called "power to the people" (which was said by the mass murderer/dictator Mau Se Tung) And his second goal was to remove any economic competition by making the state the only vender and controlling what we buy/hear/see, which can/has been used to bolster his first goal. His ideas have successfully impoverished the World and the only solution is to look back on how America’s[others applicable] founding fathers established government's roll in the Dec. of Independence,Magna Carta,Dec. of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, ect..

I'd like to start off by saying that I, unlike most people here, it would appear, am from the United Kingdom - a country that probably would have underwent socialist reform if not for the announcement of WW1. So I'm sure my country has been influenced by socialism far more than your counttry has. I didn't think this was a real quote when I first heard it reworded in the film ''Southland Tales'', and now I'm shocked at how people are responding to this. Marx expressed a status against the belief of God throughout his life, so let's not take the remark stating his goal was to ''Dethrone God'' literally, because he didn't belief a God existed in the first place! Oh, and if you thought otherwise, you're a moron, just going to throw that in. ''God'' was seem as a force of oppression, as the old capitalists and feudalists, as Tony rightfully pointed out, asserted their authority as a result of His will. An capitalism was an unfair system that exploited workers, and what stood between the world and egalitarianism. Marxism - Marx's philosophy - has never been applied as a political system. The Bolsheviks of Russia may have called their philosophy communism, but in practise it was nothing like communism. The closest we've evevr gotten to it is Cuba actuallly, but then you Americans won't leave them to their own devices, so their economic power is restricted. Furthermore, communists, marxists, socialists, and bolsheviks weren't/aren't racist. To be against God isn't racist. Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany were not only racist, but they were the opponents of the bolsheviks and especially of Karl Marx (don't let the ''socialist'' in ''national socialist'' fool you). The USA was a far more racist nation than the USSR ever was.

I agree with Dave from the U.K. Marx wrote his manifesto at a time of great economic and social unrest in Europe. His main complaint seemed to be the exploitation and impoverishment on workers by the merchant class. Wal-Mart under-pays it employees and offers classes in obtaining food stamps and wic for it's many employees so Marx criticism of greedy merchants back in the 1800's is still valid today. Marx was forced into exile and survived on the generosity of friends until he died in the poverty he fought against. I think Marx is just a straw man modern fascists use to keep controlling abused and under paid workers. Fascists suck.

Too complex to go deeper, Marx was above all a philosopher and writer...if you are such you can say and write a lot. The most 'marxists' don't even know what they are talking about. And the worst is that in all sub-develop countries the so-called-marxists, mostly analphabets who think they must kill others thinking different to them in order to bring equality of classes. "The coming world war will cause not only reactionary classes and dynasties, but entire reactionary peoples, to disappear from the face of the earth. And that will be progress A silent, unavoidable revolution is taking place in society, a revolution that cares as little about the human lives it destroys as an earthquake cares about the houses it ravages. Classes and races that are too weak to dominate the new conditions of existence will be defeated." Karl Marx

Marx was atheistic apostate Jew. He gets his irrationality handed to him from being cut off of Abrahamic Covenant gravy train. Read all about apostate Jewish irrationality (today's liberalism), in their own book devoted to what their legacy shall be, Duet 28..it gets juicy after you read the blessings they missed by rejecting G-d. The good news? Today's American Conservative Jews are statesmen and real American treasures.

I just read the comment "In other words, His (Marx's) object in life is to liberate mankind's mind & body and remove all oppression." An absolutely gullible (at best) thought process!

Do you see God as oppressive? Then you've never met Him. The good gifts of God are self evident - existence, respect, liberty, fellowship -- just to name a few. God's goodness is contrasted by the works of Karl Marx's ideas that are no less than Communism, Marxism, Neo Nazi-ism (to name just a few) all in the name of "I want to be my own God." Marx's philosophy in action has oppressed untold billions and killed hundreds of millions of people in the 20th century alone.

Due to their envy and hatred, no matter how much the progressives ( socialist and communist ) try to eradicated God, when all is said and done; at the end of the day most human beings will pray to God in their darkest hour ( imagine living under Karl Marx's cult ) because we come from him. He is our father, it is our nature to need Him, and no amount of Karl Marxism will ever change that. These progressive minded atheist will be forgotten in time, lets pray they do no turn this world into a hellish version of John Lenin's Russia, before they fade away.

To all of those who endorse this quote: You are a symptom of a disease brought about by ignorance and rose colored glasses. How is having the means of production under state control supposed to benefit anybody but the state? How is it that you think an all powerful state sees you as anything but inventory to be disposed of at will? (cattle) And what are you calling "capitalism"? is it the guy who invested his own time and money to open a bakery? A motorcycle shop? A plumbing business? A construction company? Or are you operating under the delusion that great corporations are able to operate dishonestly all on their own? No they are not! They operate hand in hand with the same government and court system to whom you would give "all" power. Are you F'ing nuts? Or just too stupid to see that what you advocate is an equal misery for all? Go Constitution, Go Liberty, Go Freedom. Abolish the Federal Reserve.

I think a lot of people here don't actually understand anything about Marx and... to clear up some mistakes: the socialist society Marx envisioned ever been implemented or achieved - the USSR, North Korea and China (if the latter two can even count as 'communist') differ hugely from the socialism Marx spoke of. For Marx, the socialist society would sort of evolve from capitalism into socialism - but you HAD to have capitalism first as capitalism developed the means of production. In regards to capitalism... Marx noted that capitalism had many good points (it developed the means of production, allowed for wealth creation, etc.) - but he was not blind to its overwhelmingly negative qualities. Capitalism is one of the most bloody, oppressive, and totalizing systems world has ever known. You think of Nazi Germany or Stalin - try sweat shops in India or Pakistan or China (all outsources of capital). Or we could rewind time and look at (early liberal) capitalism at the beginning of the 20th century... or in the 19th century... what we would see is poverty, vast economic and social inequality, world wars, premature deaths, malnutrition, child labour... the capitalism we in the Western world enjoy today was built upon "blood and tears" and under capitalist rule, the rich will continue to exploit us until the day we die, and then they will exploit our children, and then our children's children
     -- Patrick Ireland, Herne Bay

Some fair points there Patrick...but the problem is still government being married to business and the complete lack of a justice system. Divorcing business and government and implementing real justice are the real building blocks...not socialism.

What? How did you get that from his statement, David? People who oppose God while human do NOT go to Heaven. Their spirits are dragged to Hell by demons once they depart their human bodies.
Karl Marx is firmly entrenched in Hell suffering mind-blowing torture and anguish at the hands of lecherous demons. Ironically, the same demons he empowered in his life as a human are the ones thrashing him physically and psychologically abusing him now  just like all people who waste their lives in rebellion toward the Almighty God.

Capitalism is free market trading. It's the most financially open system of free enterprise and making successes out of the poor there is.

But let me get to the real issue of your statement: the people living paycheck to paycheck are are just like anyone else  they are free to spend their money as they see fit. It's not Capitalism's fault they don't manage their money properly. It's their fault if they sink and it's to their credit if they swim. Don't blame the water for the drowning man, blame him for not learning how to swim!

The problem with our economy is not the profit, but what's done with it. The problem with mankind is not found in our minds, it's what's in our hearts (sin).
God is not a "thing" as you have opined, but is a Person who truly loves you and wants the best for you. Jesus Christ (the only Son of God) came to Earth to lay down His life as a ransom for our sinful selves and make a way for mankind to know God as He was known in Heaven.
