"We should never define libertarian positions in terms coined by liberals and conservatives, nor as some variant of their positions. We are not fiscally conservative and socially liberal. We are libertarians, who believe in individual liberty and personal responsibility on all issues at all times."

What a dumb statement! Simple reason being: "incestuous"

If Man, in his fallenness, were not as frail as he is and as commonly ill equipped as he is to differentiate, with right discernment, between Liberty and licentiousness, Libertarianism would be an eminently realizable ideal.

They to whom licentiousness is liberty cannot but be in bondage, for in the absence of Virtue no actual Freedom can exist to be known.

Robert, I smile - tell us what you really think ;-) I'm not sure exactly where of the political scale I fall but, it is definitely not today's modern liberal, conservative or their position on libertarian. If an anarcho-capitalist was to describe a laissez-faire lover of complete liberty at natural law as a libertarian, I'd think I found a home as a libertarian - hmmm? Other than that, I like the libertarian mantra.

A individual's ignorance or denial of his responsibility leads to master-servant relationships with others -- it's been a popular racket for eons. Taking responsibility for oneself is the 1st step of liberating oneself from such a paradigm. Freedom and responsibility go hand-in-hand. Groupisms formed by political party consciousness justify the corruption of the principle of Liberty for the illusion of security. America was founded upon the principle of Liberty, having been liberated from the claims of Crown and Pope. Self-determination is not a goal, it is the way.
