"Religious liberty is primarily a man’s liberty
to profess a faith different from that of the dominant religion,
and to unite in public worship with those who share his faith."

... you seem intollerant Mike. Are you opposed to the First Amendment?

Religious liberty is not only freedom of religion, but also freedom from religion! Each must be free to choose their own path to their own form of salvation. This quote seems to miss that "freedom from" part and is thus lacking.

Of course, the rub with this idea, and it is a correct one, is just how far a depraved human mind can go when finding something to worship...it is amazing. I know all are not going to believe this (Reston) but there are actually people who believe human beings are God and omnipotent--or that chance explains everything and is ompipotent and omniscient. You know there are even people who believe God instructs them to convert others or kill them, and yes (drum roll please) there are people who worship nature as if it were somehow omnipotent and gave them license to do anything they pleased to anyone else who did not view their "god" in the same way. You are so right Reston...in a way anyway...freedom from harmful, kook religions like is being pushed on our society by athiests and agnostics, where everything depends on faith in that "god" of evolution,etc....yep, its a real problem...and maybe we should be protected from it. Good oberservation... What really amazes me, is what religions someone is afraid of and wants to be "from." Go figure. God bless

Belief is just that - belief. If I believe something is true that indeed is not true, it is still not true no matter what I believe. We are free to entertain whatever fantasies or superstitions we wish -- this life is full of illusions -- we love fantasy probably more than truth -- just look at all the movies, shows, and books we crave.. Indeed it is good to use our imaginations and creativities. That's why there are THOUSANDS of religious faiths. Keep 'em coming. ;-)

Rejection of God is foolish. You have never seen the wind, but it is. You may have never heard God's voice, but He speaks. He also anwers.

I hope I am not intolerant and I am a full fledged advocate of the first amendment. I believe an individual has a right to orderly speak to his G(g)od or super id anywhere he pleases, even if that is a Muslim or atheist at a Christian revival or a Christian at a state sponsored event such as school. My reference was that religious liberty goes far beyond simply where one can express his private beliefs. I am again VERY convinced in the Divinity of the Christ and agree whole hardily here with E Archer and David Rosenthal. Why is it that the left and right are so afraid of learning from others. I have to laugh every time a socialist says he's open minded so we need to throw the bibles out of school.

The occupying statist theocracy infesting this land, along with its hard core religious zealots will ultimately allow no competition to its/their atheistic socialism (that is the direction). The statist theocracy's omnipotent canons supersede other religious beliefs and actions related thereto. That is one occasion that would lend credence to the quote's accuracy.

I agree with Reston. As far as I am concerned, all religions are man made, including Christianity. I believe that the apostle Paul dreamed this one up. If a fundamentalist wants to believe that a talking snake in a garden caused all the trouble, he's free to believe that or in Santa Claus for that matter.
