"Dividing the political positions into liberal versus conservative is itself a leading example of [an old conceptual framework that organizes the world into categories and stereotypes] shared by journalists and media activists alike. As a result, it has taken decades for libertarians in the United States to break through this conventional view of the political spectrum and gain recognition as a distinct point of view. Over and above any hostility journalists had to free-market views, there was no conceptual space within their conventional wisdom for a political philosophy that combined free markets and free minds."

As susceptible to conditioned prejudice circumscribed interpretation as words are, Principles, Virtues and Humanity itself, ultimately, transcend the constraints of categorization, classification and labelling.

It seems to have always been the intent of socialist and the like, blurring lines of understanding, removing the shadings of words which reveal America's "types" of Liberty and Freedom. At which we find a lacking within European Libertarian think tanks as to the origin and understanding of Hebrew Natural law and combined Greek philosophy, which have produced the American phenomena
Threskos religion, science, common sense. The Common Cord. This comes by way of essentialism in the class room, without the slant ( corrupt baggage ) of secular humanism and perennialism.

In a world of this and that, there will always be differences. But this and that are not static. The young become old. New ideas become fads, then some become traditions -- often challenging long-standing customs. With time, one political group's views can completely change -- the Democratic party is a good example. With a 2 party system, each party represents the collective interests of the group -- if one party takes a position, the other must take the opposing position, depending on the sentiments of the day. Over time the parties dance.

In America today, the political parties have become blocs for arbitrary power -- whoever is in the majority rules the rest. The Libertarian ideal is what freed America from monarchy. Global socialism now aims to take over, but America was founded upon different principles and cannot join in without losing their Independence. Libertarianism is starting to return as more Americans learn who they are.

Decentralization of power is now a global movement, since centralization has just merely tightened the noose. Brexit, Trump, and more 'exits' are a sign.

Libertarianism is closest to original Founding intent, compared to today's dog-and-pony 2-party gang-rape. I posit our misled Republican constituency is far better aligned toward Liberty, than its completely lunatic-left Democrat counterpart.

It's not so much that Libertarianism "broke through" anything, as much as the gang-rapists finally strayed so far from Liberty that We Liberty lovers are now referred to as "Libertarians"; therefor I add a third observation: the nomenclature evolves too: I would much rather be thought of as a Classical Liberal, but alas our lefty friends have absconded an old label, "liberal", and applied it dishonestly where ILLIBERAL seems most perfectly appropriate.

    THE FOUNDERS WERE "LIBERTARIANS", ALL.
