"Consistent with section 202(d) of the National
Emergencies Act, 50 U.S.C. 1622(d), I am continuing for
1 year the national emergency previously declared on
September 14, 2001, in Proclamation 7463, with respect
to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the
continuing and immediate threat of further attacks on
the United States.
Because the terrorist threat continues, the national
emergency declared on September 14, 2001, and the
powers and authorities adopted to deal with that
emergency must continue in effect beyond September 14, 2010."

This quotation is great because it clearly reveals Obama as an opportunist interested in (1) grossly increasing the Federal Government's reach and, particularly, (2) expanding the powers of the Executive Branch way beyond limits set by America's Founding Fathers. Obama and his naive liberal base are the greatest threat to Democracy in American history. 2012 cannot come soon enough!!!

It is safe to say that this was not a "Liberty Quote". Just another example of how our gov't restricts our liberty. What is next, a quote from Castro?

Do you think for one moment that this was Obama'a idea? The process of turning the US and A, and by extension Canada, into a dictatorship started before Obama was out of grade school. Any loss of civil liberties, rights and freedoms in the last thirity years have been through actions taken by Republican/Conservative governments. Obama's just a puppet on ths one. McCain would have done the same thing.
     -- L. Hanson, Edmonton, Canada

Actually it started before Obama was born, somewhere around 1913 when we got the Federal reserve and the income tax. Perhaps even by Lincoln who seemed to be bound and determined to centralize power in Washington.

It's interesting that our government always has some threat to our safety going on, some war, so as to take even more of our freedoms away. People will readily surrender these freedoms when faced with some sort of threat, real imagined, or invented.

Hanson, you're close but a little off base. Assigning blame "only" to Republican / conservative administrations shows a very leftist / propogandist bend. It has been ALL administrations since Andrew Jackson and every President has been merely a meat puppet for the Globalist Bankers. The quote is a wake up call for every American and absolute justification for the 2nd Amendment.

I see that Silas & jim & J all support this move by Obama with their 5 star rating too... and lets see if we can do basic arithmetic: 2001 + 2 = 2003... hum... who was in control of all 4 branches of government at that time: King George W & his minions (including Fox News). And what would their response be if Obama did not continue this? They would cry their little (if existant at all) hearts out that he's weak on ___ (fill in the blank). A pox on all of your houses!

Reston, was not Obama elected to do just the opposite of King George W.. Then why are things the same and worse?

Clearly the law restricting national emergencies to 2 years has a flaw if the emergency can simply be redeclared every year. I think this is proof enough that both political parties are cut from the same cloth. Republicans typically support the military no matter what it does, and the Democrats although speaking out publicly against war have hypocritically supported militarizing America and using the emergency powers doctrine for their own nefarious purposes. Statism, in whatever form, is a worship of power and the president as the 'anointed one.' It is truly mind-boggling how America has been enslaved. But the people are waking up -- it is going to get messy.

Actually Reston, having read so many of my posts...how can you possibly think I would support any encroachment on the liberty of Americans? I gave it 5 starts for the "alert" that it sends. So against ALL previous experience...you immediatley fly off the handle with your assumptions...Liberalism really is a mental disorder isn't it?

Don't be surprised if there is no election for president in 2012. B.O. Hussein will declare himself king. He is portrayed as a Socialist though that is a lie. Thanks for the quote. Voting cures nothing.

This thumb's down is to go along with the 5 stars of the previous quote. 5 stars for accuracy, thumbs down for the part played in destroying America's representative republic. "A" from Reston, what difference is there between the fascists King George and Mr. Obamunist Goodwrench except, the later has a little greater sadistic streak of communism?

Above; you must be very confused if you think Obama has a Liberal Agenda or is a socialist - please what have you been smoking. He is an instrument of the plutocracy which is based on the wealthy elite, our military complex and fundamentalism. Guys read your history books and learn the difference............ In the time of King George lll (diseased with porphyria) all Kings, rulers, were fascist's - even though the term was not coined until Mussolini.

Straight to the point: I remember soon after the 9/11 attacks former President Bill Clinton being under sever attack by opponents saying that the terrorists had entered the U.S.A. under his administration policies, which were actually "no policies or measures in place to prevent them to enter the U.S.A.". Although I do not really enjoy going through all those security measures at airports - after all, I like to bring all kinds of face cream, shampoos and perfume with me - when I travel by plane and subway measures, I wonder what kind of and how much criticism our current President would take if there weren't any security measures. I'd say that this is not a Liberty issue, but pure politics. I must confess that, as a linguist, though, I really enjoyed myself learning and noting down in my glossary new idioms used by the participants.

Obama continues the Homeland Security fascism and military adventuring of Bush Jr. and adds in marxism, crony capitalism, mercantilism, Keynesian economics, and climate change. He's like the patron saint of bad ideas.

2nd Chron. 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, would Humble them selves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, and forgive their sin and HEAL THEIR LAND!" Why look any farther? 1.2+ Million children, Murdered in the womb in 2010 and there is so much more within HIS church that must be corrected by "we the people"! Folks, we sold it all for a bowl of political porage!

Robert, I've read my history books as well as more. Socialism is: A; "Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or, by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy. B; a system of society or group living in which there is no private property. C; a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state" (merriam-webster dictionary). "An economic system in which the production and distribution of goods are controlled substantially by the government rather than by private enterprise, and in which cooperation rather than competition guides economic activity (like the union being management of a nationalized business). "There are many varieties of socialism. Some socialists tolerate capitalism, as long as the government maintains the dominant influence over the economy; others insist on an abolition of private enterprise. All communists are socialists, but not all socialists are communists. "(The American Heritage New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, Third Edition) "The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved." In the Union of Socialist Amerika (USA), under a collectivist redefinition of We The People, there is no allodial freehold (no outright private ownership or enterprise) The statist state claims inherent right sovereignty as an organic hegemony, owning all property, rights, etc. The USA's helots, serfs, and otherwise collective are allowed certain title (a title is a limited claim to possession, not ownership) or license by an omnipotent lord and master (state). Fascism, as defined by despots (Mussolini, Hitler, etc.) is a system of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned by a collectivized central government that also often plans and controls the economy. A primary aspect of the fascist style of socialism is known as corporatism. Corporations are administrative bifurcations of the state. The state owns everything. The state owns the Corporation, all property and rights, etc. and designs how a corporation may function. Stock holders and officers are only allowed certain day to day administrations. Through the corporation, the state owns and controls the economy, distribution and production - people being only a numbered chattel of the collective. Further, fascism usually employs a caste designation to its subject patrons (economic - the wealthy elite vs all others, a plutocracy above all others, racism, friend/foe, etc.) By way of example, liberal fascists (socialists) make derogatory claims as agent provocateurs, like those whites that wont accept socialized medicine are just racist crackers. The statist theocracy that now infests this land is a socialist regime, diametrically opposed to free enterprise, law, justice, freedom, liberty, an individual sovereign's creator endowed unalienable right and the constitutionally established government of the representative republic.

RBE, major planks of the Communist Manifesto include the establishment of a central bank, progressive taxation, and state ownership/control of all property. With socialism, we have the same thing except all are indebted to a cartel of the wealthiest people in the world. Socialism is and always has been run by a wealthy elite -- that's why it is a con. If you can't see the hypocrisy of multi-millionaires like Obama, Clinton, Kerry, Gore, Pelosi et al suckering the votes out of the poorer classes, then you need to start getting your facts from some other sources. You keep harping about the big bad corporations but socialism is the creation of the biggest and baddest corporation of them all --and we aren't shareholders, we are exploited by and for the State -- and the 'State' is them, not 'us.'
