"England may as well dam up the waters of the Nile with bulrushes as to fetter the step of Freedom, more proud and firm in this youthful land than where she treads the sequestered glens of Scotland, or couches herself among the magnificent mountains of Switzerland."

Reader comments about this quote:
Enlightened leadership returns to the helm of America, England now clamors for their Independence, Brexit, their couches have grown old and the springs are bear where they once sought to rule. As with the cutting edge of a knife, Liberty and Freedom in America comes to the forefront. Let the bell of Liberty ring loud and clear throughout the world of humanity once again. MAGA.

England and the people thereof's legacy is one of extremes - liberty, inalienable rights, etc. and, to an uttermost other. Demonic socialism with a worship of carnal gods ways have robbed both America and England of greatness. The unfettered light of freedom, liberty, inalienable rights, individual sovereignty, natural law and justice yet burns bright and hopeful in individuals of both countries as well as the rest of the family of man. I add my voice to Ronw13, God Bless.

Ah, if only such sentiment resided in the hearts of Americans today -- I know it does in many, but it would be nice to hear on a regular basis.

It's all flowery with no bite. The land is not youthful the land was not productive in Christian terms.
