"There is danger in the concentration of control in the television and radio networks, especially in the large television and radio stations; danger in the concentration of ownership in the press… and danger in the increasing concentration of selection by book publishers and reviewers and by the producers of radio and television programs."

Greater danger resides with the ever increasing size of our government.

The raditional role of the press had been to serve as a watchdog against the potential corruption, abusiveness, and tyranny in government. Much of the press today seems unwilling to take that role seriously any more. The press now seems complicit with abusive government.

Concentrated corporate media (left to right) in harmony with criminal government is nothing more than a propaganda support team.

I think we know who he is talking about even as we are all afraid to come out and name them.

His fears have found complete fruition in Fox News. I am not afraid to name Fox and Roger Ailes and Company as a politicla propaganda organization parading around as a news organization.

So true!! After the 2008 election and all those that did not get the truth on all our Presidential Candidates, because they were misled by the bias media who is partially responsible for our great nation being in debt 14T by a man that gave his first speech overseas calling America arrogant, dismissive & derissive & has made power grabs of everything that is not constitutionally legal. It is time that the sleeping giant awakens and get rid of those that have invaded our great nation with the intent to destroy us.

The MSM is nothing more than a propoganda machine telling you what and how to think. Instilling that great tool of control, "fear" into every aspect of your daily life. Ignore the MSM and subscribe to the many watchdog groups on the internet for a more truthful look at the way things are. Hats off to Fox for occasionally being (singularly) brave enough to point out the evil that is now our Government.

Hey Waffler , How about lefties like Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman for real propaganda. And let's not forget CBS, NBC,ABC, and good old CNN, the've been in the tank for Obama and the crowd all along. It must gall you Marxists that FOX has more watchers than the rest put together.

Eugene McCarthy died in 2005, I think that perhaps it may be time to put the year of his death into his quotations.

The danger has been ever present for most of the last century and still continues with almost total compliance of all media except for Roger Ailes Fox news and a very few stalwart conservative publications. The threat will not stop there. The FCC is determined to control the internet and is extending far reaching intrusions into our personal life. If the present administration is not reined in, we can expect a far different America as a result.

So, now we all agree this an excellent quote, what is the answer? how do we reined in this monopoly by corporations of news channels and news papers? When you don't have an independent media you are, well, you know how the rest goes...

There are already laws on the books to prevent monopolies. The problem is that the monopolists have acquired so much power over the government itself, that our representatives merely appease the opinion-makers to keep their seats of power. Turn off broadcast television for a couple months, and think for yourself for a while. Afterwards, you will easily recognize blatant propaganda when you hear it. Six companies own 90% of all the media outlets in the US. Freedom of the press is guaranteed only to those that have one, and the current mega-media-corporations keep buying up every independent voice it can. But look to the advertisers to see who is calling the shots. How many drug commercials are you subjected to every day? How many credit schemes and free-lunch promises are we exposed to everyday? How many stories intended to instill fear and intimidation are reported every day? Bad news sells, good news means you can turn off the TV and go for a walk. Has courage been completely conditioned out of us?

The danger is people like Waffler who think that Fox News is a propaganda arm of the Republican Party. What a laugh. Obviously the Waffler has never watched Fox News to see how many liberal contributors there are. Fair and Balanced isn't just a slogan like liberals are so fond of slinging around. Fox actually does represent both sides. It's too bad that the liberal's agenda, when exposed to the sunlight shows up so badly. Juan Williams and old Revolver Mouth are as liberal as they come and they get plenty of air time. Revolver even has his own show. Fox also has representatives from both extremes of the political party. Fox News is the answer to the left's ownership of all the other major news outlets and the entire educational system.

Spoken like a true leftist.  Fox News' audience is larger than all the other 3-letter media outlets combined.  What I find astonishing is how all of their stories sound the same  same phraseology, same narrative with twisted jargon that doesn't sound naturally spoken.  It's as if they are all coordinating their stories together  i.e. getting their stories straight.  What a racket.  Remember that this is all about vast amounts of money and power.  The last thing they want you to know is how the racket works  they will do anything to keep their power and influence.
