This quotation has done terrible damage. It has been weaponized by educrats from coast to coast to rail against "mere facts" while arguing in favor of fuzzy-wuzzy progressivism in the classroom. Einstein was NOT saying that knowledge isn't important. What he was saying is that imagination is the spark that turns knowledge into new insights and discoveries -- but you have to have knowledge first!

It depends on the context. New discoveries often require thinking outside the box. 'Knowledge' may in fact may be incorrect or misunderstood. Memorizing the periodic table may be necessary to become a chemist, but the guy who invented the periodic table had to imagine it first. Without imagination, there is no innovation. Frankly, most of us live our lives in a world of our imagination anyway, and as we get older we have to let go of childish conclusions we've made along the way.

We could interpret it as 'knowledge came / comes from imagination.'

I don't want a world where neither is "important" ... where either can exist without the other.

My favorite pastor said "It's often the case where the question is not "either-or," but "both-and," to which I could say naught but AMEN.

Mr. Einstein is quite on point with natural law, as receiving it as such. As with the Rock upon which the republic rest, in one accord ,Genesis 11: 6 . And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have ( imagined ) to do. Four corners, our forefathers were correct in choosing the right God ! The Creator, as our Constitution refers to. Is the God of Nature and natural law. Einstein was an extraordinary person ! Brilliant ! Things that are the same are such.

Not only Sunesis, quickness of apprehension, more over in Einstein's situation Gnosis, knowledge by itself and applies chiefly to the apprehension of truths. But to the greatest of knowledge I believe Einstein achieved ( Sophia ) knowledge, denotes wisdom as exhibited in action and adds the power of reasoning about them and tracing their relationships. It is a mental excellence of the highest sense, to details. Critical, apprehending the bearing of things. ( Imagination), to think, account, reckon, devise, plan. When applied in the ordinary sense of thinking as with craftsmen , inventing instruments of music, artistic objects, and weapons of war. Chashab imagination .
