"What we don't see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do."

Rudolph W. Giuliani

WOW, besides being a Hitler devotee; that I could rate this quote an innumerable times with an infinity of thumbs down. If his use of the double negative and sentence syntax was to illustrate current reality concerning the occupying statist theocracy infesting this land, I would have to agree with 5 stars. Freedom is a law of nature or nature's God concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be ! ! !

"Lawful Authority" has nothing to do with freedom (except to limit it). Freedom is all about the individual making sensible decisions about interactions with others in such a way that others are not harmed and that 'lawful authority' is not necessary to preserve the rights and freedoms of others. Of course this is a utopian viewpoint and quite unreasonable in a society where the priority of the majority of individuals is to get whatever they can for themselves however they can get it and others be damned. Our indivvidual (and corporate) lack of consideration for others is what makes 'lawful authority' and the loss of individual freedoms to that authority a necessity in any real society.

The current New York mayor seems to agree with Rudy. If the whole state is not a Nanny state, New York City is surely the Nanny city. Check those calories on the menu and heaven forbid if you drink a large soda.

This is the mentality of politicians -- power corrupts. Freedom is Authority? It is guys like this that the establishment's ruling class pick for our 'leaders.'

I think this was a quote for the times - say what you want but the man turned NYC into a safe and desirable place to live (it's on its way back down again). At the time, the guy needed the law to do it and the balls to see it through. The best mayor New York ever had. No law, no justice.
