"Riding a bike is 113 times more dangerous than hunting with all those 'gun nuts'! The NSC [National Safety Council] reports that out of 100,000 bicyclists 905 had injuries requiring hospital treatment. Out of the same number of fisherman, 141 required treatment and out of 100,000 golfers 104 were injured. Please compare that to the 8 hunters out of 100,000 who were injured in 1991 (last year for data)."

OK, that is nice, that is kinda interesting (it may ring for some gun grabbers ?). The next time the conversation gets real slow, I may bring that up. The right to keep and bear arms is not dependent on safety issues as compared to other activities. The right to keep and bear arms, among a myriad of reasons, is self preservation (for hunting, against criminals, all threats foreign and domestic, etc.)

It's good to stay on subject when comes to guns. The second amendment has nothing to do with hunting, target shooting or protecting your home against intruders It has to do with citizens being able to defend against oppressive government. Our Founders understood the evils inherent in government and wanted citizens to be able to protect themselves against these evils.

What does this quote have to do with gun violence in America? Answer: NOTHING!
More cyclists are injured than hunters. Okay, now what?

A society that is compelled by law to obey upon threat of violence by the State will breed the same arrogance among its people. The issue is 'violence' not 'gun violence.' The US always uses the 'War on ...' metaphor for solving its societal problems -- is there any surprise that 'war' becomes the modus operandi of Americans to get what they want? The 'War on Drugs', the 'War on Terrorism' (an oxymoron), and coming soon the 'War on Guns'. It is government that wages constant war upon the People in order to dominate us and keep us in perpetual fear. We are being conditioned to be a bunch of war mongers -- internationally and domestically.

Ted, if you or anyone reading this can fully answer, what gun violence are you specifically addressing? As the quote is making a comparison — the "okay, now what?" — would follow with a comparison of rights revoked, incurred injuries or deaths compared to rights preserved, injuries or deaths prevented.

Certain factions within the body politic of parties. " At all times, sincere friends of freedom have been rare, and its triumphs have been due to minorities , that have prevailed by associating themselves with auxiliaries whose objects differ from their own; and this association , which is always dangerous , has been sometimes disastrous , by giving to opponents just grounds of opposition."
