The cultivation of ideas that drum up fear are the most profitable. Throw reason aside, just appeal to emotion. The public psyche is treated like a domesticated animal to be groomed and yoked. Most people do not realize how much psychological techniques are used in propaganda for 'opinion-making' -- most everything the common man believes about society has been cultivated in him, mostly to engender a 'duty' to obey his 'superiors' and to not resist theft of his property and labors for whatever reason.
