"The modern press itself is a new phenomenon. Its typical unit is the great agency of mass communication. These agencies can facilitate thought and discussion. They can stifle it…. They can play up or down the news and its significance, foster and feed emotions, create complacent fictions and blind spots, misuse the great words and uphold empty slogans."

The quote speaks for itself. Agreed.

Sounds like he is talking firstly about NPR, the McNeal Laurer Report, Katie Couric in the first part and Rush Limbaugh in the second part.

The press is now almost compltely in the tank for Obama. Their main function is to make him look good, not an easy task. One of the best things about Limbaugh is that he pisses off Libs like Waffler.

Yes, and the more they keep the sheeple in line and dumb the better it works. There are two kinds of intelligentsia, one that manipulates people and the other that sits quietly behind closed doors waiting...

I think every city should have a conservative newspaper to report what is really happening in the world instead of the "Spin" version

The reason why news media are going out of business is that they don't sell the news but propaganda, and nobody has to pay to get propaganda. It is "freely" crammed down your throat. I'm just waiting for the next Obamunist bailout of newspapers that are too big to fail (or at least too important to their government sponsors). Speaking of empty slogans, has anyone seen any hope and change lately?

Ken...the change I see might leave me with too little hope. I'm enjoying the slogan "I'll keep my guns, my money and my freedom...YOU keep the Change!"

Yes Ken, the market is up and expected to continue in the Second Half. I just drove from Alabama to Illinois. I saw lots of highway construction thanks to the Economic Recovery and Reconstruction Act or something of that name that related to the stimulous bill. I spent yesterday in downtown Chicago, people are upbeat, beaches were crowded. Am sorry for the sad little depressed and I guess forever raining world in which you live there. You need to get out more. People are just about as hppay as they want to be. I don't think you want to be happy until 3 1/2 years from now at a minimum. Passage of health care will be a quantum leap in the nations happieness level and a big boost to our pocket books as our costs go down.

The quote is bang on, and Waffler demonstrates the effectiveness of propaganda on small brains. (Everything Waffler says is but a parrotting of what he has been told by the media.)

Kay, conservative newspapers are " Spin" papers and magazines like The Nation and Vanity Fair and the British Guardian are the only worth while reading materials. The last thing Limbaugh does is piss me off if he did it would mean he said something intelligent.
