Justice is not revenge and it cannot right a wrong doing. It is simply a code of warnings one will pay if one commits an injustice. Most folks want to live by the law. Others can only fear the law. A few could care less and end up facing justice in our penal system. -- Cal, lewisville, tx
Justice has a few levels -- not all are under the control of man (thankfully). Natural law requires no courts for justice -- as you sow so shall you reap. The aim of a court of law and the statutes themselves are to resolve complaints between 2 or more parties. We call this "due process" of law and the process has been refined over thousands of years, but the premise is the same: the complaint is not a verdict, and the defendent is innocent until proven guilty. Ultimately, the verdict is to be decided by a jury of our peers -- a guilty verdict must be unanimous or the defendant is acquitted of all charges. This due process has been tinkered with over and over so that accusers (particularly when it is the State) have an easier job of convicting folks without having to prove guilt but to make the defendant prove innocence -- to turn the premise into a presumption of guilt. And if a defendant insists on a trial by jury instead of a backroom deal, the punishments to be laid are exceedingly harsh. Juries are not even informed that they have the last word on the law in question as well -- the jury is the last line of defense against unconstitutional laws -- their decision is final.
