"[N]othing in the Constitution has given [the judiciary] a right to decide for the Executive, more than to the executive to decide for them. Both magistracies are equally independent in the sphere of action assigned to them… the opinion which gives to the judges the right to decide what laws are constitutional, and what are not, not only for themselves in their own sphere of action, but for the Legislature & Executive also, in their spheres, would make the judiciary a despotic branch."

There seems to be some disagreement as to the role of the Supreme Court. The JURY is still the primary check against bad laws. Most Americans forget that the federal government's only jurisdiction in the States is regulating interstate commerce -- the Congressional legislation cannot grant any rights, particularly access to the treasury (or shall we say, the government 'credit line'). Since the government's primary purpose now is to centralize power, tax and spend, to keep that power structure in place -- it's all about money, who its taken from and who gets it - we merely vote for the thieves that promise to raid the opposition's coffers. Justice is supposed to be impartial -- is there anything more partisan than today's US Supreme Court? !
